Deco's, San Diego
Deco's is a split-personality place in more ways than one. First, it doubles as a restaurant/nightclub. Then, it's not one nightclub, but two.
The restaurant is separated from the clubs by the main bar, but to get to the clubs you have to walk through the restaurant (kind of a buzz-kill, it is a bit spooky.)
The first dance area past the main bar plays more of the 80's pop type music. Continue through here and up the stairs and you're in the "outdoor" club where the music leans way towards hip-hop. It's not totally outdoors, there's kind of a Texas Stadium roof with a hole in the middle. That makes it outside enough to allow smoking in that "room" (California does not allow smoking in any bar/restaurant.)
Dress Code: "No Sneakers" That is, unless you know the doorman, the doorman likes you, or you're wearing adidas. (Gotta love people with power trips.)
"21 and over" That is, unless you know the doorman, the doorman likes you, or you're wearing a nice pair of low-rise or nice mini- which reveals either a thong or back-ink.
Deco's is a great place to have dinner, drinks and then mingle with a friendly semi-posh crowd. Thursday and Saturday nights are really busy, but fun if you get there early, otherwise you might have to wait to get in.
Dress Code: The draw-back is "no sneakers" allowed.
One cautionary note:
If you're in the back room with the hip-hop and need to use "the facilities", the line for relief won't kill you. The line to get back into the room will, however, when the room is at capacity and they're metering folks back in so-as not to violate any fire codes.
That is, unless you know the meat guarding the door, the meat guarding the door likes you, or you're wearing a nice pair of low-rise, etc. : p'
