    La Jolla is pronounced La Hoya for those of you who wouldn't have guessed. It is a word meaning, "The Jewel," and most folks think of La Jolla as the jewel of San Diego. The beaches at La Jolla are many, with varying landscapes from smooth pristine sands to craggy cliffs and they are popular, especially the southern area where sea lions have made their home. However it is the image of Californian luxury that draw most people to La Jolla. Famous and rich people come to La Jolla to live, great scientific works are being done in La Jolla and let's not overlook the quality of shops and restaurants to be found here.     This is the best beach in SD. It's where all the Italians, Brazilians, and local La Jolla people hang out. It's beautiful, there is usually music, and when the sun starts going down BBQs start. Be prepared for all day! Go down La Jolla Blvd (after PB or downtown La Jolla, depending on your direction). Turn on Natualis (I know I spelled it wrong but you get the idea) towards the beach and you'll see it. Get there early for parking!

    The Museum Of Contemporary Art, San Diego located in La Jolla also operates a smaller museum of contemporary art near down town San Diego. It is free and if you like contemporary art you should take a look. I spent about a half an hour there. It is easy to get to by cable car. Just get off at the America Plaza stop for the Blue or Orange Line Trolleys.

    If you are coming up the I5 from San Diego you pass by a church which looks like Cologne Cathedral built in "Plattenbauweise" (Socialist Building)... that's the Mormon Temple in La Jolla which suddenly made me realise that the cathedrals of Liverpool aren't the ugliest churches in the world!

    One morning for breakfast we went to La Jolla, one of the coastal towns north of San Diego. It's a pleasant little town full of shops and rather expensive cafes, with an impressive view of the ocean and definitely a good side trip from San Diego.

    Just down the street from the downtown La Jolla is a small stretch of beach (actually a cove) that is home to a number of seals. If you have the time it's worth a quick stop to admire the local 'natives'.

    I don't about you, but you cannot really apprecite San Diego unless you take an airplane, because I think that this view only speaks volumes, but not when you are driving! And plus you cannot fully apprecuate how really beautiful and captivating San Diego really is! This spot is over looking a good looking part of La Jolla!

    La Jolla is only 15 minutes from downtown San Diego. It is known to be one of the more affluent communities in the U.S. La Jolla Cove is a small beach tucked between Point La Jolla and Goldfish Point. Very popular for divers and surf fishermen.
