    Casa Guadalajara: Great Happy Hour

by Straggler Updated Apr 4, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Fun place to meet, eat and drink. But most of all is the happy hour = free food

The ambience of Casa Guadalajara is reminiscent of a gracious hacienda deep in Mexico. Old wooden gates, splashing fountains, colorful talavera tiles and wrought iron fixtures help create a most magnificent dining experience. Mariachi music is a must to hear.

    Check out the website.

Favorite Dish: Hanging out in the often-loud bar near the happy hour table with a Margaritas - where they just keep bring out great finger food.
Course one of the reasons for the happy hour is to entice you to try Tequila Lime Shrimp, Chicken, Beef and Shrimp Fajitas and Carne Asada Tampiquena. Try sharing some Margaritas and then go shopping or Visa Versa

    Casa Guadalajara: Happy Hour Favorite

This is a great place to meet for Margaritas--just don't order the house margarita. You'll know it when you see it. It's the color of mt. dew and tastes horrible. Pay the extra money for the Cadillac!

Casa Guadalajara: Tex Mex in Old Town

by Dabs Updated Nov 8, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We asked at our hotel which Mexican restaurant they recommended in Old Town and they enthusiastically recommended Casa Guadalajara. We arrived at around 6:30 on a Friday night and there was already a pretty long wait even though it was off season.

Once we were seated service was quick and efficient. The area we were in near the bar was extremely loud, even louder when the mariachi band was fired up. It was a bit too loud for me on this particular evening but it seems like a great place to go to celebrate.

Favorite Dish: I thought the food here was better than the Old Town Mexican Cafe, the food and atmosphere at Casa Guadalajara reminded me a lot of Chi Chi's, a now defunct franchise of Tex Mex restaurants that we used to frequent in the Chicagoland area. I ordered the Especial de la Casa, with carne asada, cheese enchilada, guacamole and mexican rice, it was good and the portion size plentiful. The rest of the menu is an extensive variety of Tex Mex favorites with chicken, beef and seafood options.

Casa Guadalajara: Good Mexican near Old Town

This restaurant is just outside the touristy parts of old town, close to the old town's trolley station. I was told it was rated San Diego's best Mexican restaurant recently, and the food was pretty good. The atmosphere is pretty festive, with an outdoor, heated seating area and a mariachi band. The staff is nice and at about $10 to $15 a meal, the price is pretty nice also. There's usually a long wait for this place, some be prepared (luckily there's a bar with very good margarita at the entrance). Overall, it's a pretty nice place to eat dinner. I don't know if it is the best that San Diego has to offer, but apparantly at least some people think so.

  • 'Casa Guadalajara': Bazaar Del Mundo

by Srechko Updated Sep 20, 2002

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Best food and fun I had in Bazaar Del Mundo. That is little Latin American market located in Old Town. There is bunch of Mexican restaurants and shops there, and few bands are entertaining the guests every evening with their mariachi music. We dined in 'Casa Guadalajara'.
I loved this market, it is so colorful and fun. It is also a good place for Latin souvenir shopping, of course if you're not going to Mexico. Prices here are pretty high.

Favorite Dish: Mexican is one of my favourite cuisines, so I had a tought choice here. I had Carnitas Enchiladas. It was very good and authentic.
