By Trolley, San Diego
If you are in town and you are going to see an event at Qualcomm Stadium, your best bet is to park at the Mission Valley Mall (for free) and walk to the trolley stop, pay $3.00 for a round trip ticket and go to the stadium. It beats paying anywhere from $5.00 to $10.00 for parking and then taking for ever to get out.
If you are going to visit Tijuana, Mexico while in the San Diego area, the best way to get there is via the Trolley. You can park your car at one of the stations along the way to the border (for free) and hop on the trolley ($4.00 round trip). You don't have to worry about the hassle of finding a parking place, the trolley drops you right at the border so all you have to do is follow the people up and over the crosswalk into Mexico.
Actually, the transit system is pretty good and easy to use. The trolley is wonderful. It goes to the Mexican border and the shopping malls in Mission Valley. There are several transit centers where you can transfer to buses. The buses do not travel as often as in other cities, so take a book and work on your suntan.
Day Tripper Passes: One-Day Tripper: $5.00; Two-Day Tripper: $8.00 (allows you to pre-punch 2 consecutive days you want to ride); Three-Day Tripper: $10.00 (allows you to pre-punch 3 consecutive days you want to ride); Four-Day Tripper: $12.00 (must be four predetermined consecutive days). Unlimited rides for all MTS Bus and Trolley routes. Good for the day or dates designated on the pass.
San Diego Trolley is great for going down town. The cost of the trolly ride is less than the fee for parking and the expense of the gasoline. We got a ticket that was good for 4 days for $12. That is $3 a day to ride any place you want to go. (I did see some young people getting on without getting a ticket but I am just to honest to do that.)
Look at the picture of my wife waiting for the trolley. The trolleys are all painted red. They are painted red but called 'blue' line and 'orange' line. In the window of the front red painted car will be a sign that says if it is a blue or orange trolley. There are trolley stops a short walk from many of the major attractions in San Diego.
The trolley has been operating for over 22 years and is a great way to get from one part of the city to the other...you can even take the trolley to the Mexican border.
The trolly is a nice and inexpensive way to make your way around parts of San Diego. The trolley will even take you all the way to Tijuana.
