This is THE way to get a "taxi" or ride in Banker's Hill, downtown and Hillcrest. You use an app on your phone called "Lyft" to order a car with a pink mustache on the front. It is cheaper than a traditional taxi, safer, quicker and way cooler. They say to think of them as a friend with a car. The drivers use there own cars to pick you up and undergo background checks before joining the program. Since you use the ap on your smart phone you don't have to give them your address either.
We had planned to use this as our main means of getting from our hotel to the park, but we discovered that the stops had changed. So we did a lot of walking and took a few taxis. I've also been told that the schedule is rather erratic. And as I said finding the stop wasn't always obvious.
The picture shows the trolley stop in from of the building that holds the Prado Restaurant. It's called "The House of Hospitality." The website link is to the map that got us in trouble so you might want to check on arrival. The Old Town Trolley does stop in Balboa Park so if it works use that to get there and then the tram to get around.
It is legal for Motorcycles to "lane split here" lane splitting is when Motorcycles drive down the center lane. There are some rules here... I have copied what is below directly from the California Motorcycle guide at http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/dl655/mcycle_htm/abilities.htm
The term lane splitting, sometimes known as lane sharing, filtering, or white-lining refers to the process of a motorcyclist riding between lanes of stopped or slower-moving traffic or moving between lanes to the front of traffic stopped at a traffic light.
Lane splitting should not be performed by inexperienced riders. When choosing to lane split, skilled motorcycle riders should consider the following:
Traffic flow – Travel at a speed that is no more than 10 mph faster than other traffic; danger increases at higher speed differentials. Lane splitting is not advised when traffic flow is at 30 mph or faster; danger increases as overall speed increases.
Traffic lanes – Lane splitting is encouraged to be done between the #1 and #2 lanes; typically, it is safer to lane split in these lanes than between other lanes.
Environment – The total environment should be considered, including the width of the lanes, size of surrounding vehicles, the roadway, weather, and lighting conditions.
Hazards – Riders should anticipate possible movements by other road users and be alert at all times.
After a quick test, physical and signing of a contract. You will be whisked off to tropical exotic ports of call anywhere you could imagine!!! While out to sea you will be excited to get the next destination. But once away from the ship for a time you miss it, and can't wait to load up and carry on!
San Diego has many transport options but if it is nice weather your should walk. Exploring the city of foot allows you to discover new places, restaurants, shops and attractions that you would miss on a tram or car.
Interstate 5 is California's central transportation artery, connecting San Diego & LA with northern areas such as Sacramento through the San Joaquin Valley.
