    Hills with heartstopping vistas

    Golden Gate

    Favorite thing: All the hills
... (Nob, Russian, Telegraph, Twin Peaks, Noe, Potrero, etc.)
make for great hiking, beautiful vistas and street scenes.

Telegraph is good for 270deg of SF vistas, 360 if you goto top of Coit. Not to mention the excellent hike / climb up Filbert and Greenwich steps.

This is always my favorite angle from Telegraph Hill, sort of NW towards the bridge.

Fondest memory: Despite all the good times so far over the years as a tourist, my best memories of San Francisco are still to come.

Favorite thing: One of San Francisco's most recognizable landmarks COIT TOWER is located atop Telegraph Hill, on Filbert Street.
Coit Tower, named for Lillie Hitchcock Coit, who left funds for a memorial to volunteer firemen, offers panoramic views from its observation deck.
    Open daily.

The Coit Tower Hill series - Part 4

    last one

Favorite thing: The last picture of this unusual (you owe me this) series. The place is "into the beaten path", the way I show it definitely not.
This time, still unaware of the mess I'm making, I took a picture of the town, a sort of lesser skyline visible westward.
You may see, not clearly, the streets climbing the other hills.
The center one is the most famous Lombard street, on top of which there is the famous part with flowers.

    alien clouds

Favorite thing: Not aware of the mistake, I keep taking pictures with the camera carrying that improbable configuration.
This picture should show the rest of the bay, eastwards view, but the most remarkable things here is the strange effects the clouds make in the image.
    I like it, don't you?

    How strange

Favorite thing: That day I spent a lot of money to buy a "wide angle" (is it correct?) and a polarizer filter (is it correct, again?).
So happy about it, I tried to use them together attached to the camera.
The result is that black circle in the picture because the focus of the main lans (a 18-55 lens) was too far.
Actually, then, a mistake, but the effect, is still remarkable I think.
This picture shows the same landscape of a 1999 picture, but what a difference!

    Artistic(?)

Favorite thing: This is gonna be hard to comment. It is almost the same picture I made in 1999 and published somewhere else in this page.
What is the Coit Tower Hill?
It is actually, a hill... standing in the middle of the town almost at the edge of the peninsula.
This gives the hill itself the perfect position to enjoy a fantastic view of San Francisco.
Obviously it is cold (here too?), because of the strong winds I found here both the times I have come.

    Coit Tower

Favorite thing: Coit Tower is located atop Telegraph Hill. The tower is built on one of the most scenic locations in the city and towering 200 feet above the top of the hill, it offers views of the Embarcadaro, Pier 39, The Golden Gate Bridge, Mt. Suturo, and the financial district. Since the tower is so tall it can also be seen impressively sticking out into the sky from all over the city as well.

Go up to Coit Tower in North...

by snmred Written Sep 12, 2002

Favorite thing: Go up to Coit Tower in North Beach but don't go the usual route via the street, go the other way. If you go east on Broadway to the third street past Columbus ( forgive me but my mind is going, I cannot remember street names right now. ) take a left, it's a one way street, go about four blocks and on your left it looks like an alley, a wide one but you can park your car there and you see that set of stairs that looks like its going into the trees?? Take those stairs and you will be transported into a magical part of SF that not everyone has seen and at the end, the georgous views of a gorgeous city.

    The Coit Tower from afar.

Fondest memory: The Coit Tower was a gift to the city from Lillie Hitchcock Coit. Many people think that the wealthy philanthropist had the tower designed in the shape of a firehose because she greatly admired the firefighters who fought the Great Fire of 1906, which destroyed a large portion of the city.

Favorite thing: At Coit Tower! It is a very bust spot...be prepared to wait in line to park! Plus...lots of construction...so very congested!

Fondest memory: On a clear day, what can I say! The most amazing view of the city!

Favorite thing: Inside Coit tower are murals painted by a famous artist (can you tell me who it was?). The tower is on a hill that is hard to walk up, but inside its worth the hike.
