Favorite thing: Wether you are in San Francisco or any other major city or taking a cruise or an airplane flight, my wife and I always go to the bank and get about 100 one dollar bills, because you will need them for tipping at the airport, cruise ship terminal, tour guides, small purchases in central American countries, It is always nice to have the dollars available
Favorite thing:
The weather has been fantastic in San Francisco this March. It brings everyone outside. We even have to head near the water - anywhere else in the City has been HOT!
Along the Embarcadero (waterfront) are numerous piers for walking and relaxing.
Fondest memory:
This is a picture of a REAL pier on the waterfront. Unlike the FAKE pier 39 shown in my Tourist Trap tips.
The white buildings in the background of this picture are on Treasure Island, a former US Naval Station. During Willie Brown's tenure as mayor of SF, he tightly controlled who could use the facilities and who could not. He would grant access to Treasure Island as a "perk" for his cronies only, which caused a major stir in San Francisco.
Favorite thing:
promenade on the Embarcadero under a starlit sky. Start at Fisherman's Wharf, past the seafood restaurants, ferry terminals & renovated piers, Pier 39 touristy venue, through the Harry Bridges palm tree lined Plaza, adjacent to the historic Ferry Building. Cross the street to the Justin Hermann Plaza, enter the award winning Hyatt Regency Embarcadero. Go for a quick elevator ride to the EQUINOX Restaurant,360 degree revolving rest./bar, & order your favorite drink, savoring the spectacular view of the world's favorite city in its night time splendor and romance.
Fondest memory:
Running the Bay to Breakers Race, biggest street party in the City, held the second Sunday in May. It truly is a Roman spectacle---world-class runners, weekend warriors, crazy exhibitionists, moms with strollers, racewalkers extraordinaire(like the local Golden Gate RW club), serious college teams(crazy Aggies, yeah!), and reveling, costumed centipedes. The After Race Party is great: gourmet food, tasty libations, rockin' 'n a rollin' music, lots of laughs and cheers. ON THIS RACE COURSE WORLD RECORDS ARE BROKEN!!!
Favorite thing: This was where many of the immigrants to San Francisco would have landed. Especially those from Asia.
Favorite thing: At the end of the Embarcadero near the Port Authority building is this sculpture which seems to be made up of odd bits of ducting. Is it some sort of rememberance of an earthquake?
