Across that thing called the Golden Gate Bridge...
Almost immediately across the Golden Gate Bridge you'll find Sam's and Guymas in Tiburon.
With views which can't be rivaled, drinks that are above average and food that satiates (it is pricier than I'd like), you won't find a better place to spend your Sunday afternoon.
At Sams, boat owning individuals can dock and walk up the ramp to spend time on the patio with us landlubbers.
At Guymas, you'll find a wonderful selection of tequilas and margaritas...not to mention the high quality food!
Go, go, go! It's worth the time and is "off the beaten path" for the general tourist!
Never hesitate to email me if you're going to be at Sam's! I'm always looking for a reason to visit Tiburon!
Cheers! Hope you enjoy my little world!
Le Petit Robert : a French Bistrot
A French coffee shop in the center of SF : increadible !
With such a name the boss must be clever (Le Petit Robert is a famous French dictionnary).
It is located at the corner pf Polk and Green, near the former cinema Alhambra (Russian Hill).

Head out into wine country
This is far from an "OFF the beaten trail activity" in actuality. It's well-known that the vineyards within a hundred miles or so of the Bay Area produce some of the world's best wines.
I enjoy good wine, but am FAR from an expert. I have to rely on the advice of locals as to the best places to go.
If you love fine wine, a gentle and mellow lifestyle and would like a nice day in the wine country, hook up with some of VT's San Francisco members and plan your trip.
corner grocery store
There are lots of small grocery stores all over San Francisco. I find them not only convenient but charming as well.
They give San Francisco an old European flavor which makes the city very appealing to me.

You won't get "shanghaied" at Shanghai Kelly's
SF's version of "Cheers".
You got the regulars and they all make everyone feel at home.
Dave the bartender could be Sam Malone's younger, lighter haired brother.
A lot of ESPN sportscasters frequent the place when they're in town.
St. George Spirits and Craft Distillers are routinely ranked as the best produced in North America. Indeed, many claim their Aqua Perfecta Eau De Vie to be the finest in the world...
Lo and behold, they are crafted in the San Francisco Bay Area!
The small distillery is housed in a warehouse of an abandoned naval yard, just across the bay from San Francisco, in barren Alameda. This is where such astounding products as Hangar One vodka, Aqua Perfecta, and St. George Whiskey are made.
It's a gorgeous tasting room in an unlikely spot...but this is the real thing, Baby.
Ten bucks a person, glass included.

If you find yourself heading...
If you find yourself heading North over the Golden Gate, make a stop by the fast food restaurant In-N-Out. The name may bring up nasty images in your mind, but they have the best fast-food hamburgers I've ever tasted, although it probably isn't really correct to call it 'fast food' - its really just a hamburger joint. The menu is simple - hamburger, cheeseburger, a double version of each, fries, and shakes/soda. That's it - no more, no less! The burgers are just fantastic - grilled, large, juicy, and served hot! Check out their website for the menu and their locations (not too many of them in Bay area)!
Sunday brunch at the Top of...
Sunday brunch at the Top of the Mark restaurant (on top of the Mark Hopkins hotel) is a nice, classy experience. Great food selection - standard fare plus caviar, breads and cheeses. Fantastic 360 views of SF as well. Make sure you go on a clear day.
In China town, although bits...
In China town, although bits are quite touristy, seek out a proper chinese eatery.
They may look a bit shabby, but the food is some of the most delicous i have ever tasted, and it's really cheap too!
I found lots of common sense in Ghirardelli square.
America finally realised that the term " French Fries" was a complete non-sense and start using " Belgian Fries" ;-))
