SF Views: Bernal Heights Part 1
Bernal Heights overlooks the Mission, but on a clear day you can see much much more than that. When we went it got really foggy as we went higher. This reduced the view but added a fabulous spooky feel. As you walk along the top, there's one place where you can look out and see several teirs of landscape below: the hill below rising one way, the mission curving down beyond that, the 280 tilted up, Twin Peaks rising and Market/SoMA falling away. It's not as breathtaking as, say, Coit Tower or what have you, but I loved how it invoked that M. C. Escher picture of the stairs to nowhere, especially with the fog.

SF Views: Unique Views of San Francisco
For some of the best views of San Francisco visit the Peter Macchiarini Steps, you can find this on any of the street maps of S.F., its right below Coit Tower and above Broadway St. The views from this spot are outstanding and offer a unique perspective of the old world S.F. architecture and the new world architecture all in one glance. The views are great during the day as well as night and specifically at dusk. Missing out on these views would be a shame, so if your planning on visiting Coit Tower or Washington Square be sure to plan on visiting the "steps"!

SF Views: I could go on forever, but for...
I could go on forever, but for now, one of the most goregous views of the SF skyline, pacific ocean and the GG bridge. Drive north on CA 101, pass the GG bridge. Take the second exit, Alexander. At the stop sign a left turn. It will swing you back the direction you orignally came from but under the freeway. Take the road lead up the mountainside. When you see the ocean, park your car. This road leads to numerous vista, parks, include Muir Woods. If you time this excursion right around sunset, its breathtaking.

SF Views: The SkyLine Drive
I talked about this a bit on my San Francisco page, but it's just so great, I had to mention it again! It's such a gorgeous ride, whether on bike, car, or motorcycle. Try it.. You'll love it.. Here's a map! Warning: If you get carsick. Be prepared to stop from time to time.. My young nephews had to stop several times to keep themselves from being sick.

SF Views: San Bruno Mountain - great panorama of the bay

Just north of the airport and south of the city, there's San Bruno Mountain, which is a county park with a butterfly preserve and amazing views from the summit (about 1300 feet above sea level). From here you can see the bay, the city, Mount Tam in the north bay, Mount Diablo in the East Bay and the ocean. You can get to it from 101 by driving up around Brisbane. There's a 5 dollar charge for entering the park (honor system), and you can either park by the picnic area and hike or you can drive all the way up to summit.

SF Views: There could not be a race without clowns!!!
LOLOL I saw so many interesting characters.. It was a blast! And so absolutely liberating, considering I went alone to this race & did not know a soul & stood around with 70,000 in the streets waiting for this HUGE race to start, tortillas flying in the air smacking me on the side the head! It was quite original to say the least &&&&& the nude runners just topped off all the fun! (We need more nude beaches, I tell ya, so people like me don't get all frazzled when we see naked runners in a race... hahaha Just kidding!)

SF Views: USS San Francisco Memorial - Lincoln Park
Located at the area known as Land's End in Lincoln Park is the USS San Francisco Memorial, created in honor of the crew of this ship who died, were wounded, and who served during World War II. The USS San Francisco was a heavy cruiser built in 1931 and commissioned in 1934. During World War II, the San Francisco saw more combat than almost any other ship in the US Navy at such locations as Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, and Okinawa. On 13 November 1942, in a fierce battle near Guadalcanal, the San Francisco suffered at least 45 hits, lost its command bridge, and 100 sailors were killed including the commanding officer Admiral Daniel Callaghan. During the ship's repairs the bridge was removed and replaced and the San Francisco returned to action for the remainder of the war. The bridge was saved and placed here at Land's End for the USS San Francisco Memorial, along with several plaques telling the history of the ship and listing its dead and wounded. Most impressive are the huge holes torn into the steel sides of the bridge from the direct hits by a Japanese ship. The USS San Francisco Memorial is at Land's End in Lincoln Park as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. From the city take Clement Street west to its end at 48th Street then a right on El Camino Del Mar to the large parking area.
