Street Performers / Other People, San Francisco
this is one of the very sad views i've seen in SF. regardless of the so claimed money that can be earned here, there are loads and lots homeless people. if your day doesn't pass by without seeing you a homeless person with a load of packs and smelly bags, you are not in SF!
i might be exaggerating here, but the quantity of homeless people is just overwhelming if i want to compare it to london or other big rich cities.
however, these people may look not so good, drunk and maybe talking to themselves. but pretty much the homeless is harmless. sometimes, at least, i find them smiling and letting go of the world and leaving all the high-class crab behind their back - that's the bright side which sometimes i cannot comprehend, but nice!
ONE THING TO LOOK OUT FOR WHILE IN THE FISHERMANS WHARF AREA IS THE "WORLD FAMOUS BUSHMAN" THIS STREET PERFORMER DOES NOTHING MORE THAN HIDE BEHIND A BUSH HE HOLDS IN HIS HAND AND JUMPS OUT AT PEOPLE AS THEY PASS BY..NOTHING SPECIAL I HERE YOU SAY BUT TO STAND AND WATCH THIS GUY DO IT AND MORE IMPORTANTLY WATCH THE LOOK ON THE POOR WOMAN OR MANS FACE IS PRICELESS...WOMEN SEEM TO TAKE IT WELL BUT SOME GUYS DONT AND THAT IS WHERE YOU GET YOUR LAUGH, MEN SEEM TO NOT SEE THE FUNNY SIDE WHEN THE BUSHMAN MAKES THEM JUMP...MOST ARE OK BUT WATCH FOR THE ODD ONE OR TWO GET RATTLED WHEN CAUGHT BY THE BUSHMAN.
SO AFTER READING THIS AND YOU WANT TO GET YOUR OWN BACK ON YOUR PARTNER TAKE HIM OR HER FOR A NICE LITTLE WALK ALONG THE WHARF AND LET THE BUSHMAN DO THE REST..JUST STAND BACK AND HAVE A LAUGH AT THEIR EXPENSE...
THEN STAND BACK AND WATCH AS HE DOES THE SAME TO LOTS OF OTHERS..AND IF HE MAKES YOU LAUGH DONT FORGET TO TIP THE GUY....HAVE FUN.
You must look for this funny guy by the docks in Saucalito with his cute little dog. The man is very good performing, but it is definitely on edge if he is sane when dealing with his dog. I think he thinks his dog can talk back to him!
This person was performing his art of great escape from the Cable Car station at the Hyde St. It was good though. He was trying to escape from those chains wrapped around his body before the cable car hit him. But then he asked money from people on queu to cable car ride. 1st time for me to see that kind of performance.
Do you know the San Francisco BUSH-MAN? He's been around the Pier 39 for a long time now (if you open the picture, you'll read '19 years at your service', and that was in 1999). This funnny SF institution scares unsuspecting passers-by by jumping out of the fake bushes he hides behind. The Japanese tourists are his favorite victims... Everybody loves him.
Flanked by our hosts Karen and Tim, all of we old-timers (including the three Cranny siblings who were raised in Zambia) had an absolutely great time in San Francisco. Can't wait to go back again!
Granted there were more street performers in the seventies, but they're still around. This woman was an opera singer, set up at the end of Maiden Lane, near Union Square.
