Clothes For Layering: Packing List
Take layers. The weather is usually around 60 in the day and can get warmer, but after 3pm it gets windy. Bring a wind breaker and a sweatshirt and you never know if it will rain, so be prepared.

If you wear shorts you will be laughed it. Only tourist wear shorts It's only warm enough for shorts a few days a year since it cools down in the afternoon and evening.

Clothes For Layering: Pack warm clothes even in the summer
Take warm clothes, even in the summer. You'll definitely need a jacket at night, and even during most summer days. The average high temperature in July in San Francisco is 18 Celsius (65 Fahrenheit), and there is often a stiff breeze.

Clothes For Layering: bring clothes for layering
You never know quite what to expect with regards to weather in various parts of San Francisco. I have worn a tank-top and been fine and then had to throw on a sweater and jacket just a few hours later. Also, the East Bay (Berkeley, Oakland, etc) tends to be a lot warmer than in San Francisco, which is good to keep in mind.

Brings lots of film, or a large memory card and battery charger, since you will find many beautiful spots throughout the Bay Area.

Clothes For Layering: Dress for SF weather!
Depending on where you are staying, there are many hills in San Francisco. Thus, for luggage, make sure you can adequately transport it without being tired from walking all over the hills to get to your hotel. Or, one can just take a cab or public transportation.

Too many tourists come to San Francisco wearing and packing only T shirts and shorts. That is a big mistake, as San Francisco weather is on average, much colder than most cities in the summer. Whichever season you come to SF, make sure you bring a jacket and clothes for layering (T shirt, long sleeve over, a sweater when it's winter time, and a jacket). Also check the forecast for rain. The fall tends to be the best season weather-wise for San Francisco (especially mid-to-late October when we have an Indian Summer). As for shoes, wear comfortable shoes, as there are many, many hills.

Unfortunately, almost all of the San Francisco beaches are too cold to sunbathe or swim in. Thus, only bring swim suits/trunks if you have access to a pool... This is true in the summer as well.

Clothes For Layering: Just because it's in Cali, don't assume it's warm!
Make sure you leave some extra room in your luggage for the souvenirs or items you might find in San Francisco! San Francisco has great shopping!

I think people in San Francisco actually dress nicer than the rest of California, but if you are a tourist, you want to be comfortable right? So, don't forget to bring comfortable walking shoes for all of those San Francisco hills. Leave those high heels at home. Also, just because you're in California, don't assume that it's going to be hot. It is often breezy and cool, especially in the summer. Bring clothes to layer with and a windbreaker. Pants are often a better option than shorts. Bring something nice if you are planning to go out on the town for dinner. It doesn't have to be too fancy, but you will definitely feel more comfortable if you leave the San Francisco tourist sweatshirt back at the hotel. Don't forget your travel umbrella!

You will definitely want to remember to bring a camera with such great surroundings.

The beach areas are nice to look at in San Francisco, but it's too cold for swimming, so I wouldn't bother packing beach gear.

Clothes For Layering: The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in SF
Whatever you feel comfortable packing all of your stuff into should be fine.

I know this is sunny California but be sure to bring warm clothese. SF at any time can be windy and foggy. Even in the summer. When it's hot in the cities outside of SF people head to SF to cool off.

They have everything you need here. It's a modern city you know. Just bring the perscription stuff.

If you can't find it in SF it probably doesn't exist.

tents, sleeping bags and gear for coldish weather. SF and the coast can be cold, windy and foggy all year round.
