Buena Vista Cafe: Sit where you find a seat

This is a landmark that's always busy. People sit wherever they find a seat , so we sat with a great couple from Chicago and stayed for hours having drinks after dinner. We were like old friends! The sandwiches are the best!!! Didn't care for the Jambalaya.

    Buena Vista Cafe: Irish Coffee

So I don't know how the food is becasue this place is known for serving the first Irish Coffe in the US and that's their specialty. Recipe: in a small cup pour 3/4 drip over 2 sugar cubes, add about a shot of whickey (they use their own brand, but I imagine Jameson would be great) and top with homemade, unsweetened whipped cream.

Drinks were small, but they packed a nice punch. Each coffee costs $6.75, pricey but we enjoyed it (and one was enough). The place is packed, so you'll have to hunt down a table but we found a spot at the bar and watched them making the coffees for awhile.

    Favorite Dish: The coffee!

WE FOUND THE BUENA VISTA AT THE DEAD OF NIGHT ON OUR FIRST EVENING IN SAN FRANCISCO, WE HAD JUST DROPPED OUR BAGS INTO OUR HOTEL ROOM AND HIT THE STREETS IN SERCH OF A BAR AND A BIT OF LIFE. AND SO IT WAS WE CAME QUITE BY CHANCE UPON THE BUENA VISTA, WE KNEW ONCE WE WALKED IN THAT THIS WAS NO ORDINARY BAR...THIS PLACE HAD HISTORY. AND BECAUSE WE FOUND IT AT NIGHT IT WAS'NT UNTIL THE FOLLOWING DAY DID WE GET TO SEE THE FANTISTIC VISTA'S FROM THE BAR.
SITTING THERE WITH YOUR DRINKS YOU LOOK OUT UPON THE CABLE CAR TURN AROUND POINT..ALCATRAZ..AND NOT FORGETTING THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE...IT DOSENT GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS...WELL OK IT DOES, TRY THE FAMOUS IRISH COFFEE'S AND IT JUST MIGHT.
THE BUENA VISTA CLAIM TO SERVE UP TO 2000 OF THESE A DAY AND WATCHING THE BAR MEN LINING THE GLASSES ALONG THE BAR AND MAKING THEM IS A REAL TREAT, THEY HAVE BEEN MAKING THEM HERE SINCE 1952 AND AFTER ALL THAT TIME THEY HAVE GOT IT JUST ABOUT PERFECT. THE IRISH COFFEE'S ARE NOT CHEAP BUT AFTER A LONG DAY LOOKING AROUND THE SITES OF SAN FRANCISCO THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN GETTING A SEAT AT THE BAR AND LISTENING TO BAR MEN BANTER THE LOCALS AND ENJOYING ANOTHER FAMOUS COFFEE.
WE NEVER DID HAVE ANYTHING TO EAT HERE SO I CANT PASS JUDGEMENT BUT THE IRISH COFFEE'S ARE TOP OF THE TREE AND A REAL TREAT WE LOOK FORWARD TO WHEN WE MAKE OUR WAY BACK SAN FRANCISCO WAY....ENJOY.

Favorite Dish: THE IRISH COFFEE...ENOUGH SAID !!!

The best $6.75 coffee I've ever had...Buena Vista's Irish coffee is outstanding made with fresh coffee, two sugar cubes, Irish whiskey, and topped with milky foam. According to the plaque outside, America's first Irish coffee was made here in 1952. This is a very popular spot for tourists as it is within view of the water and near tourist areas such as Fisherman's Wharf, Lombard Street, and North Beach.

This cafe and restaurant is just opposite the Hyde St. cable car turntable a few blocks from Fisherman's Wharf. It is famous for, supposedly, having introduced 'Irish coffee' to the United States. For those of you who don't know this is coffee with Irish whiskey and a lot of cream! This is a very decadent thing to have at 11 in the morning!

Favorite Dish: Irish coffee of course!

    The Buena Vista Cafe

The Buena Vista is located at the Corner of Beach and Hyde Streets where the cable car turnaround begins at aquatic park.

This is a lively spot no matter what day or time of day. The Irish Coffee was created here and is still going strong. They really do make the best Irish coffee in the city. They now even have the Irish coffee to go. Great for a little "pick me up".

I've also had breakfast and lunch there at different times. The food is good though go for the Irish.

Buena Vista Cafe: Try their famous Irish Coffee

Buena vista used to be a restaurant for seamen before it became a famous tourist spot.

They are said to have invented (or reinvented) Irish Coffee and if you come here you should try one.

They also sell good food and although it's located in a quite tourist place (near Fisherman Wharf) the prices are reasonable.

The Buena Vista hasn't changed a bit since it was founded. There is no place else in the world like it and the rumors are true, this IS the home of Irish Coffee in the U.S. San Francisco's legendary fog can chill you to the bone. Nothing warms you up like a delicious Irish Coffee from the BV. Steaming coffee, Irish Whiskey, and fresh cream. Yummmmmmm.

If you're in SF, you can't miss this landmark and legendary taste!

    Still sober

What I know is hearsay. But, if you make sure you ask Geisha_Girl to organize a cocktail get together at Buena Vista, better be sure that you have bail money, just in case...

Favorite Dish: Well, drinks, I suppose.
