Lucky Creation: Vegetarian food in Chinatown
Lucky Creation is a rare vegetarian/vegan restaurant in Chinatown: several others have closed over the past year or two. This place, however, does a booming daily business, both for eat-in diners and for those who pop in to buy some of their many imitation meat products. It's a popular spot with locals - Chinese and non-Chinese - and visitors alike, so much so that you'll probably be sharing a table with strangers at peak times.
The decor is spare, the service can be a little brusque, but the food is excellent, and the atmosphere, with a constant stream of people popping in to purchase or chatter, exactly what you might expect of Chinatown.
Despite the decor, the cooks lay much emphasis on the presentation of their food: the taro root deep fried in the shape of a fish is a signature dish, but care is taken with almost everything, and it all looks fresh and hearty.
Lucky Creation is closed on Wednesdays.
Favorite Dish: We had some excellent vegetables in curry sauce, as well as deep fried tofu, peppers and Chinese eggplant in black bean sauce, rich and filling. We had nearly as much fun watching what everyone else was eating!
