The pub's food is excellent too. The place is quite big, with seating inside & out. It can be noisy, usually filled with people in their 20's & 30's and sometimes TV monitors with sports on. Great for Happy Hour & weekend game viewing. Located on the Embarcadero along the waterfront, Gordon Biersch offers one of the most dramatic views of the San Francisco Bay Bridge, especially while enjoying drinks or a meal on the patio. The bridge is almost right above you. After visiting Grace Cathedral why not stopping at Top of the mark for a drink and enjoy the views from this top building.... It is supposed to be the birthplace of the Martini, but I am not sure if this is right. Leave a Comment

We just wanted an snack and the place looked alright so we entered. The first thing that caught my eye was the jar of water with fresh lemons and ice! Heaven! This is home! Then the small of home made sandwiches… oh good, that was nice and the cappuccino was the closest to a proper one I had on the States… Just great. I've been to this restaurant at least 3 times during my many visits to San Francisco. Its a family owned restaurant with a nice homesy feeling. The food is fantastic and the place is always jammed pack. The decor is a throw back to the early 1960's which gives it a nice vibe. The service was good and the food is always excellent! They recently (2007) underwent renovations making the restaurant a little more popular. It really isn't too kid friendly though since it is on the smallish side. I would say if you are looking for a little romance, or dining with a group of freinds, Sodini's is the place. They get super crowded and I would recommend getting here a bit early so you won't have to wait in the bar area which is pretty small. The prices are great with a large selection of daily specials. If you're in the North Beach area, pop on by and enjoy a great meal.
I love their fried calamari and I usually order their Tortellini Alla Panna, YUM!! Leave a Comment Theme: ItalianPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 510 Green Street, SFPhone: 415-291-0499Directions: In the North Beach section

Tad's Steakhouse, located on the Powell cable car line near the Union Square turnaround, has been serving up inexpensive, hearty food since 1955. When you first walk in the door, there is a short counter to your left - you can order there, or you can sit down and have your order taken. The decor has changed little in the 50+ years that Tad's has been open, but the focus here isn't about flash and pizazz; it's "Top Quality Meals at Value Prices" (their motto). Tad's is clean, the food is good, the prices are excellent - especially in the heart of a tourist district like Union Square; the service is decent, and it's a good bang for the buck. Tad's Steakhouse is like a large cafeteria, with a grilling area in the window, for passers-by to see. The steaks are the lesser USDA Select quality, and can be chewy. But the price is right! The steaks, 10-12-oz, are char-broiled and are served with a baked potato, salad, and a roll. — $10.99. Half–broiled chicken, with same accompaniments, $8.99 Opens: Mon-Sun 7:00 a.m.-11:30 p.m.
This is a no frills, down to earth steakhouse that offers cheap steak, baked potato, salad and garlic bread. The steak is amazingly not small and the baked potato is pretty big too (The steak is good - I believe the secret may be seasoned salt, but nothing beats a seasoned slab of beef cooked over an open flame, Throw in a baked potato the size of a newborn's head and a good 1/4 of a sourdough baguette that is also grilled, buttered and seasoned and you've got yourself a meal!) at $15 (10.99 + drink + tip). Tad's food is simple, but that's part of their charm. They've got a variety of grilled sandwiches for $5 to $5.50; a couple of slightly more expensive "plates" for $8 to $11; and that's it. This isn't a place for picky dining; this is where you go for good, solid comfort food. Tad's is also one of the few places that still keeps drink prices reasonable, with soda and coffee going for $1.25, domestic beer for under $3, and even a glass of wine for only $2.60 - which means you can eat well here for under $10. If your looking at more expensive steakhouse in the Union Square Area, Then go to Morton's Steakhouse at 400 Post St (also a favorite of mine!) wherein a 16 ounce Angus ribeye starts at $35. This restaurant is located in "The cannery" a former industrial place near Fisherman's Wharf which was transformed into a marketplace with shops, restaurants, live-entertainment and so on. In an nicely decorated room they serve good mexican food. So we enjoyed our first evening on californian soil after a long flight from Germany very much. They also have some tables outdoor. One of many good Hunan restaurants in the North Beach / Chinatown area. I'm pretty sure all the locals have their faves (Henry's .. etc.) and think Brandy's is for tourists like me, but hey, when you're from somewhere other than SF or New York, Brandy Ho's tastes pretty good. Supposed to be "healthy & fresh with no msg," but I would eat it if it were wok'd in dioxin. It's delicious.
I like the "Brandy Ho Dinner" prepared "hot" which is essentially wok fried scallops, shrimp, veggies and other goodies. Ask them to make it spicy, then make sure you have a glass of water and a couple of Tsingtaos sitting in front of you. Brandy Ho's is another good place to eschew table service and instead sit at the counter so you can watch an expert cook your meal on equipment you will never own. Also highly recommended is the Smoked Duck Hunanese for $11. Their website Brandy HO's has all the info and even a decent broadband virtual tour. Capp’s is a bustling neighborhood bar with tables set up in long rows. If you go on the weekend, you’ll probably need a reservation as they pack them in. It’s not a place for a romantic night out but a fun place to have a loud, big, good value meal. It is an authentic North Beach eatery big on atmosphere, just not the kind with a violin backdrop.
The food is served family-style and you start off with a big salad and cauldron of minestrone soup. The bread lays to rest that you can only get good Italian bread in New York City. I had the Osso Buco or veal shank. The meat was practically falling off the bone with a rich tasty sauce that was soaked up well by the side of polenta. Doreen had roast pork loin flavored with rosemary and mushrooms, coupled with a side of macaroni. We each had a glass of the house red wine and the total cost for two was $45. And believe me, there was no room for dessert after these massive portions! Here you will find outstanding burgers for soaking up the excess alcohol while you crawl North Beach Update '07 - Clown Alley location has changed its name and is now called Pickles thanks again, Hank
A big delicious, greasy cheeseburger with fries and a shake. Or sometimes I take it back over to a table outside Caffe Trieste and wash it down with a Sierra Nevada. The ambience is elegant and upscale, with tiffany style lamps on the circular bar, and beautiful sconces on the dark wood walls and pillars. The upstairs seating area looks down on the circular bar through a nouveau railing of metal made to look as though it's draping fabric. The food and cocktails are delicious, and the service is top notch. Your water glass will never empty and should you finish your (hot and fresh) roll, you'll hear a quiet, "plop" when your head is turned and come to find another hot and fresh roll on your bread plate. A suggestion: This is located very close to the Davie's Symphony Hall and the War Memorial Opera House. That being the case, they are absolutely packed before and after symphony, opera and ballet performances. However, if you go there around 8pm on a performance night, you will probably get seated right away, without reservations, and they will be completely staffed up and stocked with the ingredients for their full menu, as they are in a lull from the performance crowds.
I've only eaten here once, so I don't have a lot of experience. Mark and I shared the bread salad, which was a bed of mixed greens (they only use organic produce, by the way), with some kind of mild, gooey and wonderful cheese, with crunchy, tasty, home made croutons and bits of grilled artichoke hearts. Yum! My pan-cooked fresh petrale sole with diced potato and pearl onions was also cooked to perfection. Mark's New York steak was hearty, fine and topped with a medalion of earthy truffle butter. Yes! While it sounds like I'm raving... let me say that it's very, very good, but it's not as good as some other restaurants that I've been lucky enough to enjoy in the SF Bay Area... but it's not a waste of time, either!
