We came here the other night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It's a lively, large, noisy, electric room, with high ceilings, white columns, and a buzzing bar scene. The live jazz combo (sax and piano) was a nice touch. The service was very professional, right down to our bottled water glasses refilled after (almost) every sip. The food was a little disappointing, but still very good. Maybe our expectations were high, or we expected the food to match the service and room. Still, we'd go back and try some other items.
Favorite Dish: We started with a spinach salad, and butternut squash bisque, which were both very good. Entrees were beef short ribs (me) and monkfish (the wife). My problem was that the meat was fatty and the portion was small for the price (26.00). The fish was outstanding, though.
The dessert presentation was great, (i had the apple pie...not what you're thinking...and the wife had the ice cream sandwich, again, not what you'd think.) but mine was missing that extra punch of flavor I was hoping for in dessert. Hers, on the other hand, was amazing...sweet and clever.

Great energy in this place. Good bar area while waiting for a table. Food has been all excellently prepared and the staff seems to be working their butts off. North Beach Pizza just in the next block east toward Telegraph Hill is one the best Pizza places in the country IMHO.

Mooses - always vibrant. Also try The Little City and the Buena Vista (Ghiradelli Square). Most of the Italian places on Columbus in North beach are great. Scala's near Union Square is excellent.
