Shalimar: Great Indian and Pakistani Meal
A great meal for a great deal. They don't deliver, so you have to go to the place and order to eat in or take away. The place itself doesn't look like much, but the food is absolutely delicious. Every bite was so rich and flavorful. Their menu has a good amount to choose from...curries, vegetarian dishes, non-curries. The prices are good for what you get and for how good everything is. If you like Indian, this is a great place to eat.
Favorite Dish: The Chicken Tikka Masala was absolutely delicious. And I love their naan. They make it right there in front of you. It is neat to see how it was made because it is different than I thought.
Shalimar: Best Paneer Masala I've had in San Francisco !
Low key / No Frills restaurant serving Indian and Pakistani food. Prices are far less than average, but at the same time, the quality of the food is incredible !
You can also brink your own drink. It is not a very clean / fancy place, so I would not go on a first date here. Other than that, the food is very tasty and traditional and the guys that work here are great !
If you are a regular, they also give you freebies occasionally !

Favorite Dish: Paneer Masala. They have the real spices that make the tradition Paneer Masala, not the "toned down"/bland ones that other Indian Restaurants in America make to cater to the American palate.
Shalimar: Best Tandoori Fast Food in San Francisco
Outstanding sheekh kebabs and other tandoori meat dishes --- comparable to the best I have had all over the world (my standard is Karim's near Jama Masjid in Delhi, Bukhara in the Maurya Sheraton in Delhi, Bade Mian in Mumbai, Shehran in Hyderabad, Bundoo Khan in Karachi and Lahore Kebab House in London). In the evenings, locals wait for almost an hour to get a table at this San Fancisco Tenderloin dive. The owner is from Lahore, Pakistan and maintains a high level of taste/quality inspite of becoming famous and now having 3 other locations. Limited menu of kebabs, tikkas, naans and veg and non-veg curries.
The whole area now has 4 or more similar food outlets (Pakwan, Chutney, Naan & Curry, etc) and is only a few blocks West of Union Square.
Favorite Dish: Sheekh kebabs are a must.

Shalimar: Savory Treats
This is a whole in the wall joint, in the tenderloin (read ghetto) district. But it's always packed with people waiting to taste, some argue the best Indian food this side of the Atlantic.
Favorite Dish: Chicken Kofta Curry with Naan.
