  • Squat and Gobble upper Haight: WARNING: EAT AT OWN YOUR RISK

    by my23cents Written Mar 9, 2011

WARNING: EAT AT OWN YOUR RISK….. I paid with my Visa card and left a small tip, not knowing how the service was going to be. I later left a large cash tip on the table. I just checked my account and noticed that the restaurant changed the tip amount and total charge amount on my credit card. THIS IS FRAUD AND THEFT. If you have to eat here, use cash and watch your wallet.

Very funky and fun with delicious food and great atmosphere.

Favorite Dish: Wish we'd had the chance to try a wider selection, but what we had was very good and enjoyable. I had the Penne Guilliamo. Brenda had a house salad with sun-dried tomato vinaigrette and a strawberry blintz.

The food here is excellent. Large, hearty portions made from fresh ingredients. There is a crepe for every taste.

The restaurant is spacious and has a warm friendly atmosphere. It's a great meeting place whether you're having breakfast, lunch or dinner.

    Favorite Dish: The mediterranean crepe.

    Lunch in The Haight district

The Squat & Gobble is a no-nonsense chain of about 5 restaurants in the the San Francisco area where you can get plentiful helpings of food at a reasonable price. Once you step inside the door, the menu is displayed in large format on the wall - divided by various categories such as Vegetarian, Eggs, etc. Once you have decided what you want, you place your order and are given a number to place on the table of your choice. It is not too long before the delicious meal arrives! Note: the photo is not off-kilter because of an earthquake - I think my draught beer got to me!

Favorite Dish: I had a Black Bean Chili (liberally sprinkled by me with Tabasco) washed down by a draught beer for lunch in Haight-Ashbury ($3.75 for the bowl). The next day we visited another of their locations in West Portal for a bacon and egg breakfast ($6.75) with hash browns and toast.

Squat & Gobble Cafe & Crepery: Good any time of day

Squat and Gobble has just about the most unappetizing name ever, but, like the old Smucker's commercials used to say, with a name like that it's got to be good! And it is. S&G's mainstay is hearty breakfasts and lunches. The dining room has some nice window tables overlooking shabby Fillmore St., and the rest is quite cozy for this rather gritty block. It can be quite busy and loud in the mornings, and a complete zoo on the weekends. But they are very efficient, and try to keep delays down. Still, expect a little slowness after ordering. It's a little more expensive than your average breakfast place, but the portions are good, they actually care about presentation - unlike most restaurants in this neighborhood, and the quality is worth it.

Favorite Dish: Their pancakes are excellent, as is most of the breakfast fare. For lunch, try the incredibly good chicken salad sandwich. I'm not much of a crepe guy, but they're supposedly very good.

At Squat and Gobble you will find all the regular staples: pancakes and omlettes for breakfast, sandwiches and salads for lunch, a good variety of options for dinner as well as crepes for all occasions.

We usually go to the Fillmore and Haight location for Sunday brunch where it seems that every twenty-something local has brought their visiting parents for brunch. So just remember parents; if junior's new full-sleeve tattoos and facial piercings are freaking you out, at least the food here won't.

Squat & Gobble Cafe & Crepery: Great breakfast/brunch place!

by worldtrekker Written Dec 4, 2004

Good and generous portions - you certainly shouldn't leave hungry. Relaxed atmosphere. Order at the counter and your meal is brought to your table. Various crepes and omeletes with potatoes, but also sandwiches if you prefer for lunch. For you Germans out there they also have Nutella to put on your crepes - there are several dessert crepes as well!

The BEST place for breakfast/brunch! A trendy, coffee-shop type of feel where they serve TONS o food! All of their omelettes and crepes filled with wonderful things are the best I've ever had! Take a number, wait in line, and hope that you find a table!! :)

Favorite Dish: Any of their breakfast items!
