    We came for the architecture - not the sculpture.

    140 Maiden Lane is the address of a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed art gallery off of Union Square. This design served as a precursor to the Guggenheim Museum in New York City.

    Small boutique for men, women and children. Selections are limited but change for the seasons. Most of the items are made by the propietor, but there are some other labels as well. The style is retro/cocktail yet modern. The quality of the fabrics and the craftsmanship are impeccable.

    I bought a beautiful dress with subtle yet endearing details. It fits like a glove and everybody asks me where I got that dress when I wear it. It is amazingly comfortable and it turns me into an instant beauty.

    Here you can find anything and everything; vintage clothing, antiques, scary clown paintings, terrifying lawn statuary and real legitimate collectibles.

    You will find the flea market every Sunday, starting early and winding up by around 2pm-3pm depending on the weather. On Saturdays in the same location you will find a bustling farmers market with fresh local produce.

    This shop is PACKED with feather boas, stockings, sparkles, sunglasses, funky sequin outfits, wigs, costumes, etc. They had so many different kinds of stockings that they had them on hangers that lined an entire wall. You choose the design you want and they get you your size. It was a bit overwhelming after shopping all day.

    I was too overwhelmed to buy anything.

  • Downtown has all the shopping you will ever need. Chinatown has some unique items if you can get past the tourist stuff. Get off of Grant Avenue and to one block up to Stockton Street. There is a shopping area out on Geary that is more Japanese (has some good restaurants also). Fillmore Street has used clothing stores.

    The street is full of very special shops : second hand clothes from every style and year, hard rock shops, show clothes shops... Very funny to see even if you don' t want to buy!

    Ghirardelli Square is a historic San Francisco destination and we wanted to visited it! It offers shopping San Francisco style, waterfront dining near Fisherman's Wharf, art galleries, family events, walking tours and more. We found out that it's on of San Francisco locals' favorite fun things to do in the city and why visitors like us love the square.

    It's history is large and it's a long story to tell about Ghirardelli. Let's just say that Domingo Ghirardelli's business was growing that large that they he and his sons had to purchase an entire block of property for their headquarters in 1893 to acommodate the company's growth. Right here on North Point Street theybegan a rather spectacular building program that extended over 11 years. The final result was the current Ghirardelli Square. It's trully filled with history and does date back to the mid-1800s. Ghirardelli Square was the original site of the family's factories as well as home to many of its employees.

    The most interesting part we visited is located on the lower plaza. Right there we saw the original 1860 cast iron chocolate grinder from France and other chocolate making equipment which were still operating on a small scale in the Ghirardelli Chocolate Manufactory. We also had a great sandwich for lunch.

    Furthermore we walked a part of the self guided historic tour which gave us a very good impression of the fact that the shops at Ghirardelli Square always strive to stay ahead of trents and it continues to update its merchant mix with new, one-of-a-kind shops and culinary experts from around the world.
