by heryanta Not sure whether this falls into the category of 'Things to do' or just 'Things to see' :) When I was a boy I used to watch the sitcom "Full House" and they had the row of painted ladies in the opening credits. So when I went to SF for the first time I just had to see it :) The painted ladies of Alamo square is probably about 1 mile west of the BART station Civic Center. Again there's nothing to do there in itself but you've got a great view of a San Francisco icon - and on a clear day (not in the foggy mornings) you can see the financial district with the iconic transamerica pyramid in the background. Directions: About 1 mile West of BART station civic center

Alamo Square by SnoopySue Postcard Row is probably the most photographed spot in the city. I would say that it appears on at least 80% of all SF postcards. These houses are among about 14.000 Victorian buildings survived the 1906 earthquake. But these colorful Victorian houses are just one reason why we were climbing there. View of the entire city from there is really beautiful. Leave a Comment

by tim07 This is one of the most photographed views in the city. In Alamo Square this row of colourful Victorian houses on the east side of the square provide a spectacular image set against the modern city skyline. The houses were built in the 1890's & appear on many postcards. The whole square & surrounding area was worth a visit. The green space in the centre of the square is a great place to relax or have a picnic.

SF's famed "Painted Ladies" by Sunshine64 This picture was taken from the park in the middle of Alamo Square. As you can see, there's a great view of the famous row of Victorian houses know as the Painted Ladies, with the city skyline in the background. There are other historical buildings on the square, too. Real people live in these beautiful houses, and supposedly the city gives them money and keep these historical treasures looking sharp. Postcard Row by DJMist This scene of familiar looking Victorian homes line Alamo Square. The downtown San Francisco skyline is just vivsble in background. Go visit the painted ladys and enjoy the relaxing park complete with dog trails and playground equipment.

Painted Ladies San Francisco by AVG2319 This was one of our "Tourist" spots we had to go see for ourselves since the postcards always look so picturesque. I have to say that of all the things we did in San Francisco this was kind of a disappointment. No doubt it has a great view from here, but when we went Alamo Square it was unkept. The grass was tall, the weeds were tall, the trees needed trimming, there were high school kids hanging out (when school was in session) smoking and it just didn't look like a great spot to have a family picnic or anything. No warm fuzzy feelings here. Maybe we picked a bad day, but it wasn't the park like setting I had imagined. The view of the "Painted Ladies" with the city behind was beautiful though and made it worth the stop.

Alamo Square, SF by trvlrtom Whenever I have friends in town, Alamo Square is one of the sites I am sure to take them to. The view from the hill on the square is one of the best in SF, and recognized by anyone who has looked at post card stands or seen that popular TV show back in the 1980s. It is rather easy to find, located near Divisidero and Oak, and I've never had a problem finding a parking spot within a block or two. On a sunny day, you can't be sitting on the slope and looking over the row of Victorian houses to see the TransAmerica building in the background. Classic San Francisco. Dont' forget to curb your wheels!

Alamo Square by jglsongs Why is everything named "Alamo" smaller in real life than in pictures? The Alamo in Texas seems huge...it's NOT. Alamo rental cars...well, that's another story! ALAMO SQUARE is absolutely a beautiful neighborhood park looking out on the city and especially, the "Painted Ladies," a row of Victorian houses in mint condition. This could be one of the most photographed parts of the city, and it is beautiful. It would seem the whole neighborhood and park perimeter would be filled with these Victorian gems; they're not. It's really just that strip of houses along one block. Still, it's worth seeing. Sit in the park overlooking the houses, have a picnic, play frisbee, and talk to the people around you. Depending on the day, most of them could be locals! Leave a Comment Directions: Alamo Sq. is bordered by Divisidero, Golden Gate, Webster and Fell. The MUNI #21stops right along the park, running along Hayes.
