If you go to SF you MUST ride the Cable Cars. They go through a really pretty area of the city, they're convenient and fun. You can take beautiful pictures from them.
For a fascinating glimpse into the cable car system's inner workings, visit the Cable Car Barn and Museum at Washington and Mason Streets.
Tickets for the cable cars can be purchased at kiosks at either end of the line or from the conductor on board for $2.

At the end of the line, the conductor and the gripman have to rotate the car manually thanks to this "turntable"....
