The Dolores park is located in the Western edge of the Mission District and is just a stone's throw away from Mission Dolores Church, which is one of the 21 Californian Mission Churches. San Francisco has many public parks but the most popular and the most crowded (especially at weekends) is the Dolores Park. Why? since it offers a post card perfect view of the San Francisco Skyline and the parke is way bigger than in Alamo Park in Alamo Square and are less sloping hence the crowds of locals. You can also watch the assortwed games like soccer It is also known as "Dolores Beach". The proximity of the park to the Castro District also means that the crowd is heavily gay, but all sun worshipers are welcomed here. Dolores park offers several features: several tennis courts and a basketball court, a soccer field, a children's playground, and a dog play area. The southern half of the park is also notable for its views of the Mission district, downtown, the San Francisco Bay and the East Bay. Also notable is the routing of the Muni Metro J-Church streetcar line through the park.

Go to Dolores park, the park with the best weather and the best view of the city!
Dolores park is located between the Mission district and the castro. It gets great sun, little breeze (when most other parts of San Francisco are cold) and offers the best views of the city, particularly downtown. Sit on the grass, drink a beer or eat that delicious burrito you picked up in the Mission and take your time! Sometimes there is live music, but mainly there are people, dogs, kids, stoners, all sorts, having good clean outdoor fun. And it's free! Transportation to and from Dolores park is easy. From Castro and Market, take the J Church muni train ($1.50) which also offers a beautiful view of the city if you take it up the hill to the top of Church st. and 30th street.

The Very Best View of the City

Take the Muni streetcar (you'll want the J) up Church Street from Market. You can catch it at any of the underground stations. You'll want to sit facing the rear of the car, rather than forward. You will start to go up a big hill and as you do you will see what I consider to be the best view of San Francisco. Get off at the park and watch the people or the view.
