Metreon, San Francisco
The Metreon is a giant theater, shopping, and entertainment complex that is complete with an arcade. The AMC movie theater offers 15 screens and an IMAX theater. They feature first run movies with the most popular ones often playing on multiple screens. On Friday and Saturday nights the shows may sell out so you may want to get your tickets in advance over the internet, or buy them early and then stroll around the complex or get a bite to eat.
I find Jillian's, a sports-bar restaurant combination, to be a good place to catch a bite while waiting for a movie.
Parking is available at the public garage located at the intersection of 5th and Mission Streets. It is reasonable for the area, but still a bit expensive in general. The area is well served by public transit. It should not be too difficult to catch a cab.
An out-of-towner who wanders just two blocks away to 6th and Mission will see a side of San Francisco you won't find in the tour books. Unless one is well versed in self-defense, the area might best be avoided.
In general the complex is fun for a visit and to catch a flick, but the crowds and downtown snarl take away some of the appeal.
