just a great place - lots of seals (or whatever they r ) just walk around, nice place, little shops and restaurants...(the italian buffet is not bad...dont remember the name...2nd floor)
There are a group of seals that reside on docks by Pier 39. Probably the best place in San Francisco to see seals.
Harry Potter would probably have to take his ferry to Sausalito from this Pier. My kids had a kick seeing this picture.
Walk down to the very end of Pier 39 and follow the sound. And the smell. Sea lions chilling out. What a sight. Good for a photo, then leave! The novelty wears off fast. :o)

Hundreds of Sea Lions lay on cement blocks in the bay off pier 39. You will have no trouble finding them. They are very loud.
When you're on a boat you have a nice view of the city and of course of the sea lions lying in the sun (and of the tourists watching the sea lions).
Come here at the right time of the year and you will get to see hundreds of Sea Lions rest there heads on the boardwalk of this famous San Francisco Pier.
Lots of shopping oppertunities for those who wish!
Also a few good eating and drinking spots, but, the best of this area is the free display given by the seals - they're great fun
