Fisherman's Wharf Lots of tourist stuff. I liked the lazy, fat Sea Lions though!

Fisherman's Wharf: Pier 39
Fisherman's Wharf - Lots of souvinir shops, lots of people, lots of noise and some seals. Now, I know a lot of people will warn you to stay away from here, but I have to tell you the truth, I love it. I love to come here to just people watch and eat the delicious hot dog! Besides I love the seals at Pier 39, even if it does smell a bit!

Fisherman's Wharf: Not the San Francisco you are looking for.
Fisherman's Wharf is the ultimate tourist trap of San Francisco. Tell anyone who hasn't lived in San Francisco that you are "Visiting San Francisco" and the first thing they'll tell you is "Don't miss the Fisherman's Wharf". The Wharf is filthy, filled with trinket stores, t-shirts stores, cheap food joints and losers hanging out and trying to make a buck however which way they can. Don't waste your time here. This is not representative of the City of San Francisco at all ! - theshiva

Paco Spray. He is a gifted spray paint artist who creates art on the fly using spray paint and then sells it. Of course, as with other successful artists, there are "copy cats" on the Wharf, who try to imitate what he does, but do not quite succeed. - theshiva

Fisherman's Wharf was like most suburban malls. There were some unique stores--a store with supplies for left-handers may still be there--but don't expect a gritty/funky fish market. We did have some nice cioppino at a restaurant there.

Fisherman's Wharf. A great place to get some cheap souvenirs, but overall it's a cheesy area compared to the magnificence that you'll find most anywhere else in the city. Go there to say that you've been there (or to catch a boat to Alcatraz - see pic at left), but don't center your trip on it.

Fisherman's Wharf. Just avoid it, unless you absolutely need a 'San Francisco' sweater. Too many other spots to visit besides this place.

Fisherman's Wharf: Fisherman's Wharf - avoid it
For some reason totally unknown to me, tourists to San Francisco always want to see Fisherman's Wharf. There is truly nothing to see there, apart from some sea lions that sometimes sun themselves near Pier 39. Fisherman's Wharf consists of a lot of truly tacky tourist shops selling chintzy tchockes, out to get your money. You won't see any native San Franciscans (other than those trying to soak the tourists) anywhere near this place.

See the sea lions. You'll also have to go to Fisherman's Wharf to catch a ferry to Alcatraz.
