Serra Chapel, San Juan Capistrano
The Serra Chapel was built in 1782 and its the only original California Mission church that is still standing. It is named after Father Serra. Father St John OSullivan restored the mission church in the 1920's. He served as pastor her from 1910- 1933.
The alter is said to be at least 400 years old. It was made in Barcelona Spain out of wood, Hand acrved and with gold leaf overlay. As soon as you walk in to the chapel you will see a baptismal font. It is the original baptismal font that was in the Great Stone Church and brought over here when the church calapsed.
There is a small chapel to the side of the Serra Chapel dedicated to St Peregrine who is the patron saint of cancer sufferers. When you go into this side chapel you will see letters from people who are asking the saint to help heal them.
