Attend the National Travel and Adventure Show!
Until this year I had never attended a travel show. They always struck me as somewhere I would most likely have to wade through long lines of travel agencies trying to sell me a trip somehwere I could easily go on my own for cheaper.
Well I was wrong. The Travel and Adventure Show the last weekend of January included top chefs from around the world giving cooking demonstrations, dancers from several countries, exotic animals. ,talks from renown travel authors, a zip line, segway riding, as well as over 250 exhibitors from representing places from all over the world. The Travel and Adventure Shows are the largest series of travel shows in the United States. The San Francisco Bay Area Travel & Adventure Show in Santa Clara attracts over 13,000 qualified Bay Area consumers and travel agents who attend the two-day event to plan and book vacations with over 250 U.S. and Worldwide destination tourism offices, tour operators, cruise lines, hotels/resorts, and other travel-related products/services.
In just a few hours I attended interesting presentations from Rick Steeves of Rick Steeves Productions and Samantha Brown of the Travel Channel. I dined on samples of foods from a famous bistro in New Orleans. I petted both a boa constrictor and a lizard indigenous to Australia. I watched a large troup of performers do Thai dances.
I attended using my Blogger Press Badge from Virtual Tourist. The first event I have ever attended with the Blogger Badge. it got me into the show an hour before the event was open to the public.
Once the doors were open to the public the event became very crowded in under two hours. Many of the talks such as by Rick Steeves were standing room only. However the event was well laid out so the crowds to some extent could be avoided.
WORK IN PROGRESS JANUARY 28, 2014
Santa Clara Paintball
It's active, it will kill half your day, and it's a lot of fun if you have a big group. It's about $60 per person until you run out of ammo. The people and here are pretty good with making sure you're having a good time. Try to get as much armor as you can including gloves (extra $10) or if you get shot, you'll be in some pain for the coming days.Related to:
