Things to Do

William S. Hart Park & Museum

William S. Hart Park & Museum, Santa Clarita

annk Says:  William S. Hart was a famous silent film star of the early 1900's. When he retired he moved to Newhall and built his home the "La Loma de los Vientos" (the Hill of the Winds). It is now a museum and contains original furnishings, Native American artifacts and western art....

Magic Mountain

Magic Mountain, Santa Clarita

supune Says:  If you like theme parks, Six Flags Magic Mountain is the best one in Southern California. The rides are alot better than at Disneyland and it costs just about the same. Viper was my favorite ride. Children under 6 years old may not be able to ride on most of the big rides.

la_beba Says:  I always find myself going back to the Claim Jumper Restaurant!!!!! One time is all it takes to get you hooked. Speaking of being hooked, if you like seafood, you will love it at Claim Jumper. They give you a lot of food, more than you could possibly eat all at once. I...

As anywhere in the sates, if you are visiting you should rent a car, and there's no subway system in Santa Clarita. However, there's buses and also the Metrolink trains, that can take you all the way to downtown L.A. But a car's a lot more convenient.

Warnings and Dangers

Speed traps at bottom of hills

Speed traps at bottom of hills, Santa Clarita

cinergy4u Says:  "Speed traps are at the bottom of the hills on streets, such as Sierra Hwy, Golden Valley. A sheriff named J. Banks gives speeding tickets most afternoons at one of those places. Also, my daughter was ticketed for following too closely on Soledad Canyon road at 3:15 during...

*Speed Trap on Magic Mountain Parkway*

*Speed Trap on Magic Mountain Parkway*, Santa Clarita

LondonToLA Says:  There is a speed trap on Magic Mountain Parkway from the 5 freeway up to McBean Parkway. Save youself some $ and drive the speed limit (50mph) on this strip of road. The cops only give out tickets - never a warning - take it from me! :(

Sports & Outdoors

Old Orchard Park

Old Orchard Park is the best place in the whole Santa Clarita Valley to get a pick game of basketball. The times I've been there, players are very serious and play to win. Very good ballers (even highschool players) come out from the SCV and San Fernando Valleys. The court is nestled in between tall trees so it stays shaded in the very hot summer days. Games usually start during the late afternoons. The only down side is that there was only 1 full court.

If you like to jog, this is a good park to meet other joggers too. It is also a good place to find an active playground for little kids and where their parents can meet up for picnics.
