Santa Monica Urban Runoff Recycling Facility

Called SMURRF, the main purpose of this wonderful facility which was a long time coming helps treats the runoff water that is so polluted from excessive irrigation, spills, construction sites, pool draining, car washing, the washing down of paved areas, and anything that ends up in the drainage gutters such as oil and trash that ends up running into Santa Monica Bay. I remember at one time seeing the runoff and it was green. Hence why we never swam here. Now thankfully everyone can truly enjoy the ocean safely.

What is neat about the plant is you can walk up too it and they have some wonderful information boards explaining it's purpose and the process.

More markers located up and down the pier. I like them because it lets folks know what use to be located in certain spots. The pier is always changing. Please enjoy them.

Located at the end of the pier just below the Harbor Office is some wonderful historic photo's of the Santa Monica Pier. It gives you a wonderful time line of when it was built and what this pier had to endure. Plus its near the restrooms too!

Located at the North of the SM Pier Sculpturer Carl Cheng created an imprint of the City of LA on a cement press. A very interesting way to honor LA. Below is a link of where the public art is located. So enjoy!
