M Street Kitchen: Great Breakfast Spot!

by GracesTrips Written Jun 16, 2014

We came to town for the Dwell House Tour and was a little early. We decided to have some breakfast. Checked out the yelp reviews and this look like a good one. Without reservations, we only had to wait 10 minutes. Fresh squeezed orange juice. My boyfriend had coffee and it was good. I ordered the huevos rancheros. Probably, the best huevos rancheros I ever had! My boyfriend ordered an omelet. He said it tasted good but he likes his omelets fluffy and this one wasn't. I would definitely recommend coming here.

Fig Restaurant: Located at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel Bungalows

by GracesTrips Updated Jun 12, 2014

It was okay, not great. I guess I expected more because there are some fabulous restaurants to eat at in Santa Monica. Most of those I called to make reservations and they were booked up. Go figure! Anyhow, the ambiance is alright. The restaurant has view of the swimming pool area. The food was mediocre. I guess if everywhere else is busy, then this is a good alternative. I posted my tip so you have at least a review.

    Border Grill: Border Grill

by antistar Updated Feb 16, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Described by a local as "upmarket Mexican", the Border Grill is actually a quite reasonably priced restaurant, with great service and chic decor. It also has fantastic and authentic Mexican food, given the thumbs up by our half-Polish American, whose wife is Mexican and also makes fantastic and authentic Mexican food. That's something I can personally attest to.

    Also great Mexican beer.

La Monarca Bakery: La Monarca Bakery - The Sweet Flavor of Mexico

by TravellerMel Written Oct 19, 2013

We wanted a light breakfast before heading over to the La Brea Tar Pits, and we passed by this lovely bakery. There are many Mexican pastries in a glass case as you walk in (take a platter and tongs, select the ones you want, and bring them to the register to purchase), and they also offer a few "savory" items. I had the Quiche Ranchero ($475/slice) and a Café Oaxaca, which was delicious, like a dark hot chocolate. My husband had a dulce de leche croissant and a tea. I wish they offered sodas (I really wanted a Diet Coke to wash it all down), but alas...

Bravissimo Cafe and Pizzeria: Bravissimo Cafe and Pizzeria

We really enjoyed this casual dining courtyard restaurant. They sell pizza by the slice, as well as whole pies, pasta, salads, and desserts. We sat in the lovely courtyard on a beautiful summer night, eating our slices, and I went back inside to get a chocolate cannoli which was tasty.

Favorite Dish: We enjoyed their gourmet pizzas, but the huge Caesar salad that was delivered to the table behind us looked wonderful as well.

Sonoma Wine Garden: Best Outdoor Space Ever!

by GracesTrips Written Apr 17, 2013

Wow! What a great, comfortable, trendy, hip, restaurant. The atmosphere is exciting. The menu is small but some wonderful items. They have breakfast, lunch & dinner. Wine, of course, but also saw a lot of variations of perhaps wine cocktails. I enjoyed having lunch here and look forward to dining here again the next time I'm in town!

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.: On the Pier with views~

by Yaqui Written Mar 10, 2013

What I like about many of California's piers is the availability of good restaurants. Bubba Gump Shrimp Company is exceptional. Although, the restaurant caters to sea food, it also included many other wonderful variety of foods for all the family.

Library Ale House: Great beer selection, Great food

by jagheter Written Jun 11, 2012

Library Ale House has been serving great food for longer than I've lived in Los Angeles. I wouldn't call them a gastro-pub, but they do get on the fancy side, with Kobe and buffalo burgers, and salmon fish-n-chips. The regular fish-n-chips are my favorite, but I'd also be happy with nothing but their excellent tortilla chips and salsa.

The beer selection is a combination of regional micro-brews, better known small brews (Sierra Nevada?) and European brews.

This is my favorite hang-out after an afternoon at the beach.

Favorite Dish: The fish-n-chips have a great crispy outside with a solid piece of fish inside. Good sized portion. Served over curly fries.

Rustic Canyon: Fresh ingredients from the Farmer's Market

    by MM212 Updated Jul 24, 2011

Rustic Canyon is really one of the best restaurant I've eaten at in LA/Santa Monica. The tasty menu, which ranges from fried artichokes to squash blossoms as appetizers, and from grilled branzino to hamburger as main dishes, apparently changes on a daily basis. All of the ingredients are handpicked daily from the various farmers markets in the area. What is bought on any given day determines what the menu du jour will be. This all sounds wonderful, yes, but sadly, I'm not sure I'll ever want to return to Rustic Canyon. The dining room has a curved ceiling and very hard surfaces that amplify the sound to an unbearable point that one has to yell in the ear of the adjacent person to be able to have a conversation. It was a rather unpleasant experience, despite the delicious food. The owners seem to recognise the issue for some failed attempt at adding sound absorbents is visible.

    Blue Plate Oysterette: Excellent seafood

    by MM212 Updated Jun 7, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

As its name implies, Blue Plate Oysterette is a seafood restaurant. It serves excellent seafood and fresh shellfish accompanied by a great wine selection. Dining here is casual, but exquisite. Tables are available indoors and outdoors, but sitting at the bar is recommended for those who would enjoy watching the open kitchen in action. BP Oysterette is located on Ocean Avenue, a few blocks north of the Santa Monica Pier, facing the Atlantic Ocean. Valet Parking is available outside the restaurant. This is my favourite restaurant in Santa Monica!

The Penthouse: Sunset views over the ocean...

    by MM212 Updated Jun 7, 2011

Located on the top floor of the chic Huntley Hotel, the Penthouse enjoys breathtaking views over the Ocean and Santa Monica. Sleek looking eclectic furniture decorates the spacious bar area and the dining room on the side where a nicely dressed crowd with movie looks dines! This place is definitely a fun scene, but it's best feature is the panoramic views especially around sunset when the golden solar rays flood the restaurant. The food, with continental/international flavours, is not the best in LA, but I found the main courses to be rather decent (the starters, less so). It is not the cheapest place to eat, but it definitely makes for a fun night out with friends, whether just for drinks at the bar, or for dinner too.

Fraîche: Italian with a French name...

    by MM212 Written Jun 7, 2011

Although Fraîche has a French name, it is in fact an Italian restaurant with an Italian menu. The original Fraîche opened years ago in Culver City (further inland in Los Angeles), and it was such a success that the owners decided to open their second in Santa Monica. The food was fairly delicious Italian and the scene quite fun. I recommend this place.

Bravo: Italian cuisine with great people watching!

by tvdandy Written May 26, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The coolest thing about this restaurant is the location. It's right in the heart of the 3rd Street Promenade. So grab an outside table and watch the wonderful foot traffic. Another added bonus is that street musicians frequently gather in this area so you have awesome music which always helps the appetite. I had the Gnocchi, which I thought was great, especially the meat sauce. Though, still not as good as my grandma's. But that's ok, I don't think an Italian restaurant in the world is up to that challenge.

Let's be honest, if you are visiting Santa Monica, you are looking for a deal anyway you can get it. So if you are looking for the classic burger/fries/soda combo for a budget price, come on down to the pier to Inkie's Harbor Grill. Excellent greasy food, (come on you know you love it) You cannot beat the location either. Right on the pier. So listen to the crashing of the waves while you harden your arteries! Come on down to Inkie's.

Mariasol Restaurant: Spices on the sea~

by Yaqui Updated Apr 29, 2011

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Restaurants that are located on piers or along the beach offer some very special views and dinning. Mariasol is one of those uniques places that is popular for its mega margaritas and tasty Mexican food. What better place to eat and walk it off strolling along the pier enjoying the views.
