    During the summer, this is one of the most crowded beaches in Southern California. During the winter, though, it's a peaceful escape. In winter, the beach tends to be foggy in the morning, with most of the fog burning off by 1 or 2 pm.

    If you are on foot, you can access the beach from Montana Ave., off of Ocean Avenue -- follow the footpath, which will lead you over a safe pedestrian bridge. If you are driving, the Pacific Coast Highway runs along the beach, and I noticed plenty of parking lots in the area, and $5.00 per entry was the going rate.

    There is a bike and foot path that runs adjacent to the beach, and you can ride north to Malibu or as far south as Marina del Ray.

    The Waterfront Cafe on Venice Beach (between Navy & Rose) is a great place to have a nice, tall, cold Erdinger draft while watching people and fantastic sunsets. This place is beach casual, so don't expect linen tablecloths and mimosas.

    I really recommend to stay till the evening Sun gets down behind the mountains ,it is a spectacular view
    Here you see Lori watching the sun almost setting behind the mountains .
    Everything looks just beautiful that time of the night ,the Ocean's glistering water ,the reddish glow above the mountains ,just awsome .

    This picture was taken from the Santa Monica Pier just after the sun went under behind the far away mountains ,
    We were here just at the right time ,the Beach looked great with still some people on the Beach .
    To see the sun set here was just awsome .

    Oh Santa Monica! Every evening , the skyline displays a gorgeous palette especially by the beach. Along Ocean Blvd , as well as many elegant restaurants like the popular Ivy by the Shore and art deco buildings. Taking a walk here is a perfect idea for a romantic date or even just for hang out with friends.

    Santa Moncica's beach and beachfront are it's main draw. It's distinctly cooler here compared to the city inland, and the location is relaxed enough to be popular with all kinds of people, from families, to teenagers, to jet-setting Englishmen too shy to even take their shoes off for a dip in the Pacific ocean.

    Sunset! It's very seldom I get a chance to watch the sun setting & I must say it's moments like these which I would treasure for a long long time. Santa Monica does have one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world!

    • Drive south from Santa Monica to Venice Beach. Find any parking & walk down the venice Beach Boardwalk. First of all you get to see the oh-so-famous "Muscle Beach" where body builders go to work out. All of the entertainment is basically free. Ther are a ton of bums trying to earn an extra buck by giving you some type of show or selling their crafts. The small side shops are cute and there are a ton of places to eat at.
