Bike Path - The Strand, Santa Monica
This path passes through Santa Monica and is approx. 8.5 miles north from Washington Blvd to Temescal Cyn Rd. It just a small section of a bike path the extends from Will Rogers State Beach to Torrance County Beach which is 22 miles long. Its a great way to spend the day walking, riding your bicycles, roller skating/blading, or cruising along on skate boards.
Our first introduction to Santa Monica was by this bike path as we happened to park at one end of it. It's a beautiful paved seaside stroll located along the beach. It's an easy walk, bike ride or jog, and you'll pass by some beautiful buildings and the various different beaches next to Santa Monica. Some beaches even have gym equipment for those who wish to work out. Do note that if you wish to window shop and browse through Santa Monica's city streets, you will have to cross Hwy 1 by an overpass to the upper level of the cliffs. This bike path exists at the base of the cliffs closer to the beach, so in a way, it's cut off from the city. Still, however, I'd say it plays an important part in Santa Monica's leisurely beachy identity.
This picture was taken from the Santa Monica Pier just after the sun went under behind the far away mountains ,
We were here just at the right time ,the Beach looked great with still some people on the Beach .
To see the sun set here was just awsome .
Drive south from Santa Monica to Venice Beach. Find any parking & walk down the venice Beach Boardwalk. First of all you get to see the oh-so-famous "Muscle Beach" where body builders go to work out. All of the entertainment is basically free. Ther are a ton of bums trying to earn an extra buck by giving you some type of show or selling their crafts. The small side shops are cute and there are a ton of places to eat at.
A nice walk by the beach to start the day, see the sunset ( when is not cloudy) or whatever time is ok to have a relax with the nice breeze in your face. Too you can get a stop and lay on the sand, let the sun caress you...Well I did enjoy few hours the sun about the cloudy and cold weather these days; maybe was cold to me because I am from a very hot place.
You can rent bikes (bicycles) on the beach by the hour and ride them on a special bike track the full length of the beach which is so much fun. If you get tired sit by one of the beach cafes and have a drink and watch all the men/women pass by.
Rent a bike and ride it around the beach path, get to venice beach and enjoy the colorfull view all around you!
Clearly marked bicycle & skating paths are found throughout the city. Another great way to enjoy the sunset!
