    ~Route 66~

by Yaqui Updated Apr 30, 2011

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Often been called the Mother Road or America’s Main Street. Throughout the west, it still is known for its unique car culture and for its creative highway signage, motels, trading posts, tourist traps, and service stations. What is unique to Santa Monica Pier is where Route 66 ends here or starts, whatever way you decided to start from.

There is a marker that commemorates Route 66 and Will Rogers, it reads:

    Will Rogers Highway
    Dedicated 1952
    Will Rogers
    Humorist World Traveler Good Neighbor
    This Main Street of America
    Highway 66
was the first road he traveled in a creer that led him straight to the hearts of his countrymen.

    Adamson House~California State Park

by Yaqui Updated Apr 29, 2011

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The house was built in 1929 by Rhoda Agatha Rindge and Merritt Adamson. It was designed by architect, Stiles Clements. It was only a summer home for many years till in 1937 it became a year around home. This two-story house even has an elevator, which was installed specifically for Mrs. Adamson in 1958. She lived in the home till she died in 1962. The State of California purchased the property in 1968.

    Bay Cities Guaranty Building

by antistar Written Apr 26, 2007

A gleaming white terracotta Art Deco building whose 50 meter stepped clock tower stands tall and proud above Santa Monica's relatively low skyline. I love modern architecture, and America has some of the greatest examples of Art Deco anywhere in the world. I don't think you'll find much about it in the tourist literature, as it's a commercial building, but I thought this was one of the most outstanding buildings in the city.

It's also located on the Santa Monica Boulevard, which I just had to see after the name was seared into my brain following a trip to Australia 12 years previously. I was forced to listen to that god damned song of Sheryl "one sheet to the wind" Crowe over and over again by the mischievous radio DJs of Melbourne.

    Test Drive a Tesla!

by GracesTrips Written Apr 17, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We went to Third Street Promenade to test drive the Tesla. A full electric sports car. But, wait, you have to make an appointment! The waiting list is about 2-3 weeks depending on what day of the week you want to have your test drive. So, if this is something you would like to do upon your visit to the area, you should call ahead and make your appointment. There are other Tesla dealer locations in California besides Santa Monica but just a few.

    Movies? Sure, why not.

Most people think of sunshine and surf when they think Santa Monica. But you have to get indoors sometime or you will get a sunburn. Also, if you are a movie fanatic like me, you can only go for so long without catching a flick. So why not do this at a cool spot like the 3rd street promenade? The Cineplex Odeon is located right in the heart of the promenade. So you can catch a flick, go eat and then walk to the beach to catch a sunset. What a deal. Movie prices are about the same as anywhere else so might as well do it in an awesome location.

  • Drive down San Vicente or Sunset

    by su_jen Updated Aug 8, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Montana is a pretty good street with lots of shops and restaurants along it, but driving down San Vicente which starts from the Ocean. Not too many traffic lights stop and tons of huge mansions to look at ;)
Streets are clean but sometimes can be loaded with lots of traffic, and there's trees on the road as divider and you usually see people jogging along on it. It's nice to drive without having to stop for the lights

On Sunset Blvd, you'll probably have to enter from Pacific Coast Highway, but it'll be a lot of curves and turns from the PCH. You can cut into Sunset from San Vicente by going north on most of the turns. Such as Barrington or Bundy. Sunset will take you through Bel Air, Beverly Hills, and Hollywood.
