Located along Ocean Aven is Palisades Park that is equipped with picnic areas, bences, rose gardens, paths, pergola, shuffleboards courts and a beacon overlook at California Ave. We strolled along enjoying such beautiful ocean views and it was a wonderful sunny day. A visitor kiosk is located along here too.

This beautiful park has panoramic views of the ocean, Malibu, and Santa Monica State Beach. You can follow the sandy walking paths along Ocean Avenue, and the way is dotted with charming arbors and seating areas amongst the palms and fragrant eucalyptus. The park is very popular with locals -- from the obviously moneyed to the homeless. I wouldn't recommend walking along the path here after about 6:00 pm as the homeless tend to bed down for the night amongst some of the thick landscaping along the park. In my experience, they are pretty harmless, but I would rather just avoid them and walk on the street side of Ocean Avenue.
Located between the sandstone cliffs and Ocean Avenue is Palisades Park. It's a popular public park with manicured lawns, tall palm trees, public art and paved walking trails. Since the park is situated at the top of Santa Monica's cliffs, you have panoramic views of the beach and Pacific Ocean - just try to ignore the Palisades Beach Road (Hwy 1) at the base of the cliffs below!
We kind of discovered Palisades Park by accident because two overpass walkways connecting the beach to the city pass through this park. It also makes for dramatic if not cliché California beach & palm tree photos to send back to your friends and relatives.
It's worth noting that Palisades Park is a popular gathering place for Santa Monica's homeless population, but I wouldn't let it prevent you from visiting. The homeless are not a threat to your safety nor are they intimidating. They're merely hanging out minding their own business or trying to get some sleep.

Take a walk on the park on the bluffs. This park was just reopened and is a great place to people watch. Not to mention it has a tremendous view of sunsets over Malibu and some great benches to sit on. Walk down to the pier and take in a concert during the summer and fall months.
One of the best places in the world to relax and stare at the ocean...if you are in to that type of thing.
Loved the Park & the Views, Minus the Homeless
I'm sure that this is a sensitive topic, so I will be gentle and respectful. We stayed for a week on the beach in Santa Monica. We loved it there, and we loved walking in the Palisades Park, both during the day, and at sunset. It's gorgeous! The landscaping is beautiful, and the views of the Pacific Ocean, Santa Monica Mountains, and the Santa Monica Pier are breathtaking. However, the hundreds of homelessness that linger there makes it hard to relax. Now I know, they are having a far worse time than I am with my comfort level. But they are occupying most benches, sleeping all over the grassy areas, and the smell of urine and body odor is ever present. Not to mention that you will witness the sad signs of mental illness. It's quite sad! Now there is a police presence and a maintenance crew that keep things tolerable, but it's hard to enjoy yourself when there's so much suffering near by. I don't know the solution, nor do I care to debate it, but if I'm going to rate this park, it does have to be mentioned. Other than that, the place is beautiful!
To the north of the Santa Monica Pier onto of the cliffs next to Ocean Avenue, I found a parking spot and got out to watch the sunset and accidentally found Palisades Park which has a lovely walking path with flowers, palm trees, a well manicured lawn and some public art.
The park has lovely views of the ocean and is a terrific place to watch the sun set over the Pacific Ocean.
