    Pier activities

There are all kinds of activities you can do on Santa Monica Pier. The Pacific Park, of course, is the popular attraction. Fishing is also allowed. Many people just get an ice cream and enjoy the sunshine, fresh air, and the music from street entertainers. I usually like to people-watch. Can't dive from the Pier though.

    Pacific Park

    Pacific Park

Walking closer to the ferris wheel and roller coaster on Santa Monica Pier, you'll see it's actually a full blown amusement park called the Pacific Park. Besides the many rides, it also has an indoor arcade and a mini golf course. Kids can easily spend an afternoon here. Somehow it reminded me of the Palace Pier in Brighton, UK -- a little old, a little cheezy, but loads of fun.

    Ferris wheel and roller coaster

    Ferris wheel on the Pier

The most visible feature on Santa Monica Pier is the ferris wheel and roller coaster. You can see them from miles away. One of the local TV channels, I think Channel 7(?), has a web cam starring at the Pier and uses it as backdrop during weather forecast, so I get to see the Pier on TV even through I don't come here often.

The Pier is a nice pleace to enjoy a nice view of the beach, you can walk and buy some pretty souvenirs, go at the acuarium, the small amusement park next to the Pier and have a good lunch in the restaurant with a nice view to the beach.

There's one place you definitely want to see ~ the famous Santa Monica Pier. It's open year round and the admission is free. They have playland arcade, carousel and many restaurants overlooking the ocean.

    SANTA MONICA PIER

This 100 years old pier is the landmark of Santa Monica.
It has been a favorite spot for filming: The Sting, Down and Out in Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills Cop, The Net, along with television programs such as Baywatch.

It also offers an amusement park with a ferris wheel and roller coaster, an arcade, an historic carousel, restaurants and a superbe view to the huge surrounding beach!

Go to St Monica Pier. All the way from enterande there are a lot of stalls with souvernirs, etc. Visit Playland Arcade. It offers all the favourite boardwalk-type coin-operated games, fortune-tellers in machines, and video games.

Check out the Santa Monica Pier. The Santa Monica Pier's origins date back almost 100 years. The Pier is very large, 413,056 square feet (9 acres), and very popular, attracting some 3 million visitors annually. People come here from all over the world to enjoy the ocean breezes, spectacular coastline views, attractions, restaurants, rides, games and shops. The end of famed Route 66 and a National Historical Landmark.
Films such as 'The Sting,' 'Down and Out in Beverly Hills,' 'Beverly Hills Cop,' 'The Net,' along with television programs such as 'Baywatch' have used the Santa Monica Pier.

    With kids on the pier

Leashed dogs are allowed on the Santa Monica Pier. However, they are not allowed inside the Pacific Park right beside the pier.

I saw a lot of pet lovers doing the boardwalk with their their dogs.

If you don't have kids, the pier isn't terribly exciting. But if you do have kids, they'll like the merry-go-rounds and whatnot.
