    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

the homeless danger is growing. Im a RESIDENT and the homeless are becoming more increasingly VIOLENT than ever before. The homeless DONT leave you alone especially if they know youre a tourist or just a nice person and they will follow you for blocks strong arming you out of money. It is illegal and you need to run to the nearest police officer and press charges. I live here and I was assaulted by a homeless guy just as I was walking out of my local corner store. the store owner thanked me for having that person arrested because he had been harrassing him and his customer for the last three weeks.

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you plan to park your vehicle for a few hours anywhere in Santa Monica, have lots of coins handy like 5 cents (nickel), 10 cents (dime), and 25 cents (quarter). If you park in one of the metered spaces then BEWARE. The meter maids are very frequent, very strict and will hand out tickets for parking violations. These can run into $25+. It is better to park in the public parkings (see Transportation tip) provided by the city, around the promenade / mall area, where the first 2 hours before 6pm are free, and after 6pm there is a flat charge of $3. Better to walk a little, than to pay lots of $$ for parking tickets.

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Never display large amounts of cash when making a purchase. It is better to use credit cards or travelers checks.

Avoid carrying a pocketbook or wallet that dangles from your shoulder, it is an easy target. Instead, carry a short handled pocketbook and hold it close to your body or inside your coat pocket. If the purse is snatched, let it go. Do not try to fight to hold on to it. You may be injured doing so.

If someone confronts you with a weapon and demands your money, give it to them. Observe as much about the person(s) as you can and immediately report the crime to the police by dialing 911. The Police do not advocate that you surrender to every criminal, but encourage you to use common sense. If it appears you could be injured, do not resist.
