Logsdon Restaurant and Lounge: Restaurant sold-Opened as CAVU. Now Closed!
THIS RESTAURANT NOW CLOSED! Logsdon's retired and sold the restaurant which was re-named CAVU-a poor name only known to pilot's meaning "Ceiling And Visibility Unlimited". New owners did not last long. Restaurant's last day of operation was 3 February 2013.
The new, enlarged Logsdon Restaurant and Lounge with quiet elegance replaced the former Logsdon smaller restaurant, a busy, crowded wooden structure that I ate a lot of lunches at in the late '60s and early '70s while flying at Santa Paula. The new building now overlooks the aircraft ramp and runway. There now is a separate large breakfast room with dozens of airplane framed pictures on the walls and large windows making the booths, tables and counter bright and appealing. The main restaurant has several rooms, one with a dance floor and lounge; another for banquets, receptions, parties or luncheon meetings. Dinner served from 4:30 pm. Steak, seafood and prime rib specialties.
There are patio seatings with sun umbrellas outside for eating and watching the aircraft movements in good weather. The full menu includes steaks, ribs, chops, seafood, soups, salads, sandwiches and delicious desserts. The owner chef is noted for many of his dishes and the restaurant gets a regular contingent of diners driving up from Malibu just for the good food expertly prepared. Dancing and live entertainment in the lounge Friday and Saturday nights. There are civic groups from town that regularly have luncheon meetings here. There usually is ample parking with a large lot owned by Logsdon's to the side and behind the restaurant.
Favorite Dish: In an American restaurant such as Logsdon's I prefer pork to beef, fish or fowl and particulaly like the evening pork chop dinner. It is accompanied by choice of potatoes and vegetable, with salad or soup and rolls. At lunch I like their soup d'jour and salad combination. Fresh ingredients expertly prepared are the key here. I have never had a bad meal from years of eating at Logsdon's.
For breakfast in the separate large room with entrance to your left that serves 6am until 11am weekdays, 7am til 11 am weekends, I like the grilled Polish sausage breakfast with scrambled eggs, wheat toast, orange juice and green tea. The 'hanger tales' are pretty good at breakfast, too!

Logsdon"s: Restaurant is closed Sadely:(
It was very hot that day and I was not feeling too good. Yet, when we entered the restaurant the hostess was quick to get us to a very nice table in the corner next to the window. She brought us water right away and they kept it coming. The food was really good too! They served breakfast that day till 3pm. So my boys had pancakes, which they loved. It was a really nice place with lots of different rooms to dine in. Great food and you get your monies worth here.
Also, it was so cool to be abe to see the planes take off and land from the view. That was special for Nate, because he loves airplanes.

Familia Diaz: Best Mexican Food
Authentic Mexican food...the best restaurant in Santa Paula. It's owned and run by the grandchildren of the original owner. One of them is always there to meet and greet you and make sure that everything runs smoothly. At lunchtime you'll find a different buffet every day of the week.

Familia Diaz is honored by Ventura County as Historical Landmark No. 132. The restaurant has been in business for many years in Ventura County in the same family ownership. Please read the plaque citation in the accompanying picture for the historic significance of this restaurant. (The plaque is in the shape of Ventura County, with the 49 mile ocean shoreline to the lower left.) The present day enlarged restaurant has a full bar and large dining room exquisitely decorated and finished as a Mexican hacienda interior. Comfortable seating in large booths and impeccable service await you. You are warmly greeted, seated and served with warm chips and salsas, fresca or picante. Wait service is excellent and the meals sublime. Large menu selection with many combination plates and other specials to choose from. Everything is fresh and skillfully prepared. A place to take your out of town company who want a good Mexican meal. Lunch hours: 11am to 2:30, dinner hours after 4:30, continuous serving on Saturdays and Sundays. And its only one block from the airport!
Favorite Dish: I love pork and the carnitas dinner is a favorite, It is hugely filling and you may skip the next meal if you can finish this one. The large pork portions are accompanied by refried beans and rice. Choice of warm tortillas, corn or flour with real butter served. I like this meal with iced tea, lemon wedge. added. No room for dessert after this feast! I understand they have a great selection of margaritas and other drinks. Their marinated steaks are also delicious.
