On the First Sunday of every month, weather permitting, the EAA Young Eagles Program offers free airplane rides to kids from 8 to 18. A national program to encourage aviation interest and careers, the Young Eagles Program has given nearly 3 million children free aircraft rides. In Santa Paula, these are offered by members of the EAA Chapter 723 at the Santa Paula Airport on the First Sunday of the month Aviation Museum of Santa Paula Open House and Fly-In.

Please schedule a boy or girl from age 8 to 18 for an aircraft ride by calling Neal Fowler at (805) 647-6994 for reservations ONLY in the week BEFORE the First Sunday.

I was once asked by the aircraft's pilot to accompany a Young Eagle flight passenger as photographer of a close friend's 8 year old grandson in flight. It was a wonderful experience for him and his mother said he talked about it for months. Several weeks after the flight, the child will receive a mailed personalized certificate commemorating the Young Eagles Flight.

The newly-appointed National Spokesmen for the Young Eagles Program are the crew of the US Airways Flight 1549 that successfully made an emergency landing on the Hudson river with all 155 passengers and crew aboard saved last January. Captain Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger and CoPilot Jeff Skiles are thrilled to lead this national program, replacing the former lead spokesman of the Young Eagles, actor Harrison Ford, an aircraft owner and pilot. The original spokesperson for the Young Eagles program was retired USAF Gen. Charles "Chuck" Yeager.

Free Rides in Electric Carts-at Aviation Museum

by Tugboatguy Updated Jul 9, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

On the first Sunday of the month the Aviation Museum of Santa Paula at the Santa Paula Airport is open between 10am and 3pm for both Hangar and aircraft displays. The Museum offers electric cart trips between the hangar exhibits using quiet small electric carts for those who do not wish to walk, or have some handicap. They are available at the Museum Store by the pedestrian entrance to the Airport and are offered by drivers who will narrate the tour of your choosing. Best of all-transportation to and return is complimentary- free! Some of the carts are large enough to carry several people, so all can travel together.

They have this service available during festivals or special occasions. It has stops that takes you to all the historical attractions in town. It is a service based out of Ojai.

    I am still researching this.

In 1967 the Short Line Enterprise did alot of lucrative business selling or trading all types of locomotives and train cars. They soon discoverd the need for the huge movie Studios such as MGM and Paramount, so they found that this wonderful area between Santa Paula and Fillmore suited their needs and created a major visitor destination that features the movie trains, passenger excursions and dinner trains.

Fillmore City Hall, 250 Central Ave (north side).
General Offices: 351 Santa Clara, Fillmore, Ca. 93015
    Phone 805 524-2546.

Off of Highway 126, just as you past the welcome to Fillmore Sign, turn right at the 5th stop light onto Central Ave. Turn right again on Santa Clara St. Look for the Red Caboose (Ticket office).
