Carlos Kitchen is right out of a Steinbeck novel--complete with all the local color, a wide range of economic levels in the patrons, and Carlos. He has the attitude of a five star matre de in the comfort of a small business man. Great portions and a good price.
Absolutely - the corned beef hash. They make it from scratch, and it is known through out the area.

Checkers has some great Sonoma County/Wine Country/California cuisine in the heartof downtown Santa Rosa.

El Patio is another great, simple Mexican taqueria. It's on the eastern edge of downtown and is one of our favourite Mexican places in the downtown vicinity, so it's convenient if one's in that area.
They have amazingly great chimichangas which are, in fact, just about the best we've had. Chimichangas are often not very good, but theirs are excellent. They also have great chicken tacos. Other dishes are not necessarily great, but everything is atleast consistently very good.
Their salsa is very tasty but is usually on the spicy side. I love it, but it's too hot for many people I know. If you're in the winery area close to Kenwood and Glen Ellen, The Vineyards Inn on Highway 12 (Not the Vineyard Inn on 121) across the highway from St. Francis Winery is excellent. The Chef, Steve Rose and his wife, Colleen own and run the place and the food is an excellent blend of Spanish and Mexican. Eat lunch or dinner in the enclosed patio and enjoy a margarita from the bar.
The enclosed patio is nice for any time of year. It is climate controlled and covered, so it's always comfortable. The live grape vines and running fountain are a nice element to the patio as well.
The Mostaciolli Verde is excellent as are the daily seafood specials. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Across from St. Francis Winery on Hwy 12 in Kenwood. Next to Landmark Winery before you get to Kenwood (from Santa Rosa).

There's a few. First is Saigon Cuisine on 3rd and Dutton in the little shopping center. Its fabulous, fresh, fast and inexpensive.
Then, theres Omlette Express in Railroad Square, they make the best weekend or any day breakfast.
Santa Rosa if full of Ma and Pa type Mexican food stands. They are excellent and will fill you up for about $4.00. You can't spit in Santa Rosa withoug hitting one.
There's this Vietnam soup heavy with noodles and veggies in a light broth. It's the best meal, it will fill you up for under $6.00 Leave a Comment Theme: Other

This is a great place full of small local beers, and the food is good too. California has a lot of beers, brewed at micro-breweries. The thing about the US and alcohol though is that they seem to have a real problem with selling the stuff - I mean, EVERY time you buy, no matter how old, they ask for ID!!! I mean, for one thing as a Brit that's crazy, and I have no ID card, no driving license (again, being a Brit), and tend not to carry my passport about with me. So I was irked at this treatment.
