Sebastopol Things to Do

  • West County Museum

This is Sebastopol's little local museum. As with many of the museums in Sonoma County (like Santa Rosa and Petaluma), the building it's in is itself historic and interesting. It is in the old Petaluma and Santa Rosa Railroad station on South Main Street. This electric line once ran through the towns that gave it its name, plus Sebastopol and the...

  • Joe Rodota Trail

This is a bicycle and pedestrian path that goes from downtown Sebastopol to downtown Santa Rosa. It is several miles, paved, and, except for a small portion crossing a couple streets in Santa Rosa, is off the road. Its Sebastopol end is near the West County Museum in southern downtown. It ends in Santa Rosa near Railroad Sqaure by linking with the...

  • Wine Tasting

Sebastopol is one of many Sonoma County starting points for a day of wine tasting. Within a few miles of downtown are some great tasting rooms: Hanna Winery, Marimar, Hartford just to name a few. Working your way north of Sebastopol to West Side Road to Dry Creek Road is a long day of sightseeing and wine tasting that leaves you in Healdsburg.

  • Excellent Burgers!!

This place is my favourite place for burgers in all of Sonoma County. It is a small old burger shack and their burgers are the best around. Although there are some pretty good burger places in Santa Rosa, and although we don't like driving places, we will go here if we really want good burgers. Their hamburgers, fries, and bacon cheese burger are...

  • Potentially Great Pub that Fails...

I am updating this review after a few more visits over the year, but leaving my original thoughts below. By December 08, the place has actually gotten worse. The problem with the more interesting, uncommon beers listed on the menu being unavailable continues and is really rather laughable. The service is at least as slow and inefficient as before,...

  • Great Mexican Food

This is a great Mexican place and is one of our absolute favourite Mexican restaurants in Sonoma County that isn't a simple taqueria (which generally have the best food). It also has got great shady patio dining in the back, which is where we almost always eat. Fish tacos.

Coffee Catz is a cafe with lots of character attached to the Sebastopol Inn. Plush seatings and decorations give the place a cozy feel, especially on rainy days, but there are also a few tables outside for the sunny ones.
The coffee is wonderful. My favorite is the orange cappucino, bitter and sweet, in a large bowl-like cup. Approximately $3.75. Also served are sandwiches and lighter food fare, all within reasonable cost considering it exists in Sebastopol.
They host a variety of live music, entertainment and an open mic on Wednesdays from 6-11pm, with the exception of every third Friday when the West Coast Songwriters hold a competition.
This is a favorite of mine and definitely worth a try if you're looking for good coffee and a cozy setting. Be prepared to be social since the atmosphere is relaxed and more than one may stroll in looking for a long chat with someone else. It's the best place to meet up, in my opinion.

  • Sonoma Horticultural Nursery

In 1964, Stewart and Audrey Barber began what was to become Sonoma Horticultural Nursery with an emphasis on growing and hybridizing Exbury Azaleas. When Polo de Lorenzo and Warren Smith purchased the nursery in 1976, it consisted of the gardens by the house and the growing grounds which is now the parking lot and lath houses. At the time, the rest...

Sebastopol Favorites

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Sebastopol is a beautiful town. We have lived here for 25 years and wouldn't live anywhere else. Rolling hills, beautiful orchards and wineries, a short distance from Bodega Bay.

Fondest memory: The nice weather! Even when it rains, this is a beautiful place.
