It seems every vacation we find at least one restaurant that we enjoy so much we keep coming back. This trip it was The Pizza Port. Some of the best pizza I've ever had and I'm kind of a pizza snob. Their beer is brewed on the premises and was very impressive.
The place is very plain with long picnic tables, paper plates, and always very crowded. Our first time there we almost said forget it, but you just have to wait until spots open and everyone just squeezes in together. Kids busy at the electronic games in back. A few tables out front are always packed as well.
Favorite Dish: A medium Pizza Roma (canadian bacon, pepperoni, sausage, salami, onions, olives, bell peppers and mushrooms) could feed the 3 of us with a few slices left over. A pitcher of Mike's Ale and I was a happy camper.

Favorite Dish: I had the B.M.S. Burger (1/2 lb. hand-patted burger, bacon, mushrooms, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion with Thousand Island dressing) with a side order of Onion Rings while LJ had the Quesadilla Appetizer (cheddar and montery jack cheese between two grilled flour tortillas with sour cream, salsa and guacamole).

The Pamplemousse Grill, officially in Solana Beach, but closer to Del Mar, is a restaurant that will please even the most caustic diner. In an unassuming location, fronted by a large parking lot, the Pamplemousse Grill is extremely popular and has an eclectic crowd on any given evening. The servers were quite casual and friendly, and the restaurant has a relaxed air about it. The food, both meat and fish, were all excellently prepared and will not disappoint. This is a place to enjoy.
Favorite Dish: The beef ribs were tender with an amazing savory flavor.

Extremely fresh seafood (it's a seafood market too), very reasonably priced, laid-back (you can wear your bathing suit or wet suit in there, probably). They have beer, wine, and a tv too.
Favorite Dish: Everything is great, my favs -- Cioppino Soup (Italian seafood chowder) with sourdough bread; and Grilled Fish Burritos ($4.75 11-4pm)

If you could live anywhere, I would suggest Solana Beach or any of the other charming coastal towns in San Diego County, such as Del Mar, Encinitas, and Cardiff-by-the-Sea (where I've lived also)....
