Danish Mill Bakery: Don't miss the strawberry tart.

by Mobleydcat Written Jul 5, 2004

I love the variety of pastries. There are so many Danish bakeries in Solvang, but this one stand out. They have more choices of pastries, cookies and tarts. You can eat and have coffee inside the bakery or you they can wrap the goodies to go. I love the friendly service.

    Favorite Dish: Strawberry tart.

Olsen's Danish Village Bakery & Coffee Shop: Can Smell the Baked Goods from a block away!!

by RedEaredPanda Written May 28, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Winners of four Gold Cups at Southern California baking contest, Olsen's Danish Village Bakery are third generation bakery owners, brought from Denmark to Solvang in 1970. The Baked Danish goodies are remarkable.. Can eat your fingers with them so please practice care when biting into the mouth watering tasty treats.. By the way, Sunset Magazine named Olsen's Bakery as one of the "Best in the West" just a little side information not that it matters :)

    Favorite Dish: Blueberry Danish treat

The Red Viking: Gotta try the smorgaasbord in Solvang!!!

by RedEaredPanda Written May 28, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Quaint family style restaurant. Offers a wonderful smorgaasbord with hot and cold entrees. Large selection of Danish and American food. A variety of sandwiches and mouth watering selections of desserts. Don't miss out on the Danish Aebleskiver and jam. Reasonably priced. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Tried the danish sausage, it was great.

Favorite Dish: Tried the danish sausage and the smorgaasbord which is sort of like a self service cold cuts, fruits and vegetables and a few choices of hot foods such as maccaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes. The Danish Sausage tasted excellent with mashed potatoes, gravy and sauerkrauts.

Viking Room and Lounge: Intimate setting with live music

by BLewJay Updated Apr 14, 2004

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you are looking for an intimate yet fun place to have dinner, then this is the place to go. The service is great, the music is soothing and the food is fantastic...makes you feel as if you are eating at a restaurant in Denmark.

Favorite Dish: Once seated, you are served warm French Bread with butter. For dinner, LJ and I both had Rahm Schnitzel (breaded pork tenderloin topped with a mushroom sour cream sauce, mashed potatoes and vegetables). While LJ had wine with dinner, I had a Firestone Double Barrel Ale (a clean, balanced texture and a fragrant, spicy bouquet).

    Umm...Umm...Good!!!

Bit 'O Denmark: Traditional Danish food

by TinKan Written Apr 13, 2004

The Bit O Denmark restaurant is located on Alisal st. near the end of the walking streets. The food is traditional Danish and has something for each persons taste.

This building was one of the first built in Solvang around 1911 and has served many functions for the city. This place was once a college for 3 years and a church before becoming a restaurant in 1929.

    They are open
    Monday - Friday 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.,
    Saturday & Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Favorite Dish: Sausage and red cabbage is a favorite for many folks including myself.

Viking Room and lounge: A very good meal

by TinKan Written Apr 11, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There are two parts to this restaurant. One side is a smorgageboard and one is a restaurant with a lounge. The lounge part has a very diverse menu to choose from and ranges from traditional Danish food to the standard US type steak.

Favorite Dish: I chose the wienersnitzel which came with a covering of capers and mash potatoes and a few steamed veggies. The food and the atmosphere were very nice and the live music was a nice touch.

    Dinner is served

Alisal Guest Ranch & Resort: Alisal Guest Ranch & Resort

by bruingirl Written Aug 24, 2002

    0.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

You can bring your wine and pay a corkage fee. It is located on the Alisal Guest Ranch. They have a golf course here and if you sit outside, you can have a nice view of the lake by the golf course. Beautiful decor and has a very extensive history of old movie stars frequenting this place...back in the day....

Favorite Dish: The menu changes all the time, but pretty much everything from the duck dishes to the fish dishes are just absolutely scrumptious!
