Car / Motorcycle, Solvang
Solvang had the foresight to build restrooms located within all the parking lots in town located along the street so everyone has access to them. They were very clean with many stalls.

The Santa Ynez Valley has a small airport for private planes only. The next closest airport is in Santa Barbara airport, which is 45 minutes south. Santa Barbara airport has limited flights so flying into LAX (Los Angeles) and driving the 2.5 hours north to Solvang may be your best option. If you are coming from the north, we are approximately 5 hours south of San Francisco & San Jose airports.
Amtrak has stations in Santa Maria (30 minutes north) and Santa Barbara (45 minutes south). You can buy a ticket to Solvang with them and they bring you by bus from the closest station. Amtrak website is www.amtrak.com.
My recommendation if you are flying in or taking the train is to rent a car at the airport or train station and drive to Solvang so you have it to explore the rest of the valley while you are here. Cab fares are pricey - the meter starts at $10 plus $3 per mile.
Solvang, the Danish Capital of America, is located 132 miles north of Los Angeles and 40 miles north of Santa Barbara just off the Royal Road, Calle Real (Highway 101). The Pacific Ocean is 15 miles west and the town sits in the midst of the Santa Ynez Mountains.
A great many people make the trip to Solvang by motocycle and I can think of no better way to get here.
The roads to Solvang run through the hills and are wide open so that on a sunny day you can have the breeze running through your hair.
Riding a bike here is also a good idea as there is little parking in the summer months and a bike can be parked just about any place in the center of town.
