The Lake, South Lake Tahoe
Favorite thing: Well, I guess if you came here, to Lake Tahoe, your main reason was to see the lake! Just ensure you leave enough time to do just that, not like me, too busy taking in the sights elsewhere, haha. Seriously, you will need much longer to see the beauty here. You'll want to stop everywhere, and take your time just looking!! I hope to go back some day (or two!). Just remember, drive clockwise for the best views.
Fondest memory: Being lucky enough to live at the lake for several years, and sharing lots of good times here with friends and family. If you're in central California or Northern Nevada, make sure you go up to the Lake (it's only about a 4-hour drive from the Bay Area). You'll be happy you did!
Favorite thing: Get a boat and go out onto Lake Tahoe - the deepest fresh water lake in North America. The water is freezing, but amazingly clear and clean. The picture below is the Tahoe Keys as we are pulling away in our Sea Ray boat.
My favorite thing about the Lake Tahoe area was the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains and the lake. It was the type of scene that is unforgettable. The Lake Tahoe area has to make sure to take care of its natural resources because this is all they have and it is a lot.
Fondest memory: Crossing over the border to Nevada and gambling for the first time in my life. I gambled a quarter. I stopped after realizing I was standing next to a mother who was wasting away her savings while her 3 kids stood behind her keep each other quiet to make sure mom was interupted while she lost her money. Not the greatest memory but a lasting one!
If you have never been to Lake Tahoe, it is a MUST on the list of places to visit in the USA. Locals are very friendly. Try to visit mid week if you are going to ski or board. Weekends tend to get crowded with the SF crew that makes the 4 hour drive.
Fondest memory: Looking down on the lake from the top of Heavenly is a sight that remains in your mind forever.
