Typical diner setting location in the parking area of a gas station. Rustic interior. Wait staff very helpful. The food was very good. We had the Eggs Benedict and the Mexican Omelet. Both dishes were very good. They are only open for breakfast and lunch, 7am - 2pm.
Favorite Dish: Mexican Omelet - Chorizo and avocado was a great hit with me!
This restaurant is located in Lakeside Inn casino just over the border in Stateline NV. I typically do not eat in casino restaurants but this one seemed well reviewed. The meal started great with a nice salsa and chips which also had some tasty hummus on the side of the salsa. The appetizer was also good. We had the summer rolls.
But the main courses we order were not good. We had the Filet Mignon with coffee rub. We ordered it med. rare and it came over cooked and charred. We also tried the Chicken Mole dish, normally one of my favorites. The chicken was dry and it was the strangest tasting Mole sauce I ever had.
The Driftwood is conveniently located in the Heavenly Village. The interior is nice and bright with booths, tables and a to go counter. The wait staff were friendly and timely with refill of coffee and bringing food out. I really enjoyed the food here and if I had more time I would have eaten here again for breakfast. They are only open from 7am to 3pm.
The Fantastic French Toast is very good but it is with sourdough bread so the taste is a little different. We ordered an egg in addition. It does not come with the meal normally.
Favorite Dish: I had "Michelle's Omelet which I loved. Filled with diced tomato, Zucchini, avocado and parm cheese, then topped with sprouts. Excellent and healthy!
This restaurant is a nice find in South Lake Tahoe. The interior is rustic with wood paneling and simulated log walls and stone pillars. It really didn't match the Thai and Asian influenced decor. The food was good and authentic. Portions were of medium size. They could have given a little more rice with the meal. The wait staff were attentive and friendly. Nothing really special, just good Thai food.
Favorite Dish: I had the Pad Prik Khing which was very good with the perfect amount of spicy flavor. We also had the Spicy Basil with chicken. was also good.
Even though we have been locals to the area for many years, we only recently dined at this restaurant for the first time in Aug, 2012.
First, the good points. Establishment has a comfortable feel to it. There is outside dining, both covered and uncovered, in a pleasant garden atmosphere as well as inside seating. I found my meal to be good and a large enough portion. Patty was disappointed in hers.
Music was a bit on the loud side for lunchtime, even outside.
Unfortunately, prices at this place are high, even for the South Lake Tahoe area. $10 for their cheapest Hamburger, albeit a 1/2 lb. $13 for a Chicken sandwich is hard to comprehend at an establishment of this nature. Ice Tea (not deep South size) is $3/glass, consider yourself lucky if you get a refill.
Menu has very few Vegetarian items. (The online menu at their website contained numerous more than the menu handed us at the table)
Service was very slow, though our waitress was friendly enough.
At $38 for a 'sandwich' lunch without alcoholic beverages, it left me wondering how I will ever again be able to complain of high dining prices in Europe.
I probably will not return...unless you are buying!
Favorite Dish: I'm not the one to ask.
The restaurant had a split personality, as I usually like. First impression typed this as upscale country club casual. Expected the prices to be on the higher side, but fair for the offering and they were.
The "split personality" comes to play in the treatment and attitude of the employees. Many upscale restaurants think too highly of themselves and employees seem ready to "snub."
However, though the location, decor and food quality would satisfy the "snobbish" crowd, the employees were helpful, friendly and gracious. That and a lakeside dining deck, with it's view of the lake and the setting sun, made this my favorite place in Tahoe!
Favorite Dish: Favorite dish? There were several choices that made the decision difficult, but we settled on Shrimp Scampi, in honor of Michael, an old friend, who once taught us the sensual way of eating scampi.
The prices have gone up and the menu has changed a bit. All I can say is that when I was there the food was good so expect that anything you order will also be good.
We've driven by this restaurant/bar/market for years and years and never stopped in. Tonight we were really hungry and hadn't found a place on our way out of Tahoe on Highway 50. "Hey, let's try that German place!" Wow -- we were so surprised. From the outside it looks pretty weathered. Inside, it actually reminded us both of some country restaurants in Germany. Friendly service, warm and delicious brown bread with tasty butter and delicious food. Highly recommended!
Favorite Dish: I had the Zigeuner Chicken and it was DELICIOUS. I chose schpaetzel and carrots as my side dishes. OH MY GOD. I haven't had German food that good since visiting Munich many years ago.
If you want a very nice Sunday brunch with an incredible view, go to the Forest Buffet restaurant on top of Harrah's casino - somewhat expensive, but what a view!
Favorite Dish: Make sure you start your Sunday brunch with some Mimosa!
Bob Dog Pizza has taken over Tahoe by storm. They do have the great food to back it up plus 3 convenient locations in & around Tahoe... They're even served at the Tahoe Bowl! Very, very cool... Their original hole-in-the-wall location near Myers Station has been expanded so they have a great room where you can hang out and play pool or foosball.
Favorite Dish: Meatball sandwich, any of their pizzas.
This is an old-style South Lake Tahoe pizza joint that also has a salad bar & serves calzone & pasta. The kids' spaghetti & meatballs is pretty good along with the salads and the pizzas. Just be sure to read the menu carefully as some of their pizzas don't have the red pizza sauce on them. And trust me... you want the red pizza sauce on it. Also be sure you have time to wait as when they get busy, they get backed up!
Favorite Dish: Spaghetti & meatballs, meatball calzone and any of their pizzas with the red pizza sauce. YUMMY!
There are about 3 Red Hut Cafes in and around the Lake Tahoe area. This one in South Lake Tahoe is right off Tahoe Blvd. If you don't mind waiting a bit, then Red Hut Cafe is a great place to be. Both locals & tourists seem to be attracted to this little red hut (truly!) that specializes in breakfast & lunch. It's pricier than your average breakfast place but the ingredients are fresh and the service snappy.
Favorite Dish: Bacon, eggs, waffles & pancakes have always been my favorite here. Same with the corned beef hash. They also have several breakfast specials daily.
Situated right off Lake Tahoe Blvd, this 1-story sprawling wooden structure is the last place you'd expect to have an elegant, refined dinner served with flair & gusto... But this is exactly what we got at this local hangout. Service was exceptional and the food was amazing... I was a little leery about ordering seafood so far from the ocean but the proliferation of sushi places in and around South Lake Tahoe should have been a clue that this South Lake Tahoe is not your usual mountain resort. The seafood at Tahoe Grille was exceptional.
Favorite Dish: The mussels offered as appetizer literally melted in your mouth.. they were so tender. Their signature dessert was the s'more bread pudding and it is divine. They were out of the halibut but offered chilean seabass instead with the fresh beets and that was so good, I forgot that I was over 6000 feet above sea level. The Papas Bravas appetizer offered potatoes with quite a bit of kick from the chili aioli... Everything was yummy!
My boys decided to break from their parents and allowed us a evening out to explore the Stateline and Heavenly Village. So we were looking for someplace grown up to dine at. We came across this place and decide to give it a try. It was decorated in a modern simple style, but host was pleasant. I tried one of their local brews and and it was good. We ordered from the appetizer because the menu was really expenisive, but I am sure it is all good.
Favorite Dish: We had the Steak Quesadilla with Marinated flank steak, fresh corn, melted Monterrey Jack cheese in a flour tortilla. Served with sour cream, guacamole for 10.95. It worked for us and was plenty to eat.
We were looking for a place to eat, but in this town all the restaurants are busy or people waiting in line to eat. So I spotted this place because my boys were ready to eat eachother. It is a very small place, but the pizza was good. The boys were happy with their meals and so were we. We had meatball sandwiches and they were good. It was kind of expensive, but the place was clean. Not a lot of tables, but the booths they had were very long that would probably seat at least four adults on each side. Nice little place!
We were driving around looking for a late lunch or early dinner. I spotted this place because it said BBQ and I will admit it was hard finding a place to eat that was not crowded where you had to wait in lines. So when I saw this place with not too many cars parked around it, I said lets try it out. We entered and they had just opened. The lovely hostess was all smiles and so friendly. She gave us a wonderful recommendation of the house special of fish and chips. The fries are huge and look different, but were delicious. Nick had a hamburger which he enjoyed and Nate had his chicken strips and fries. It was all good and we were the only guest of yet in the restaurant. The decor was still in its 70's style, but WE LOVED it, and so did my oldest son, he thought it was fun.
What is very neat, is the building his historic and was once a restaurant, store, gas station, and bar. It also has one of the only places that has a basement and that basement is rented out for parties and receptions. Its called the Cavern and the hostess gave us a personal tour. A really lovely place!
So if your in this area, please check it out!
