Lake Tahoe Adventures, in Myers & South Lake Tahoe
Avoid this company! They’re nothing but trouble.
The snowmobile ride through the Hope Valley is okay one time. The long, flat runs on snow-covered roads would be a bore a second time.
However, my experience, and that of others, are that LTA will attempt to charge hundreds of dollars to your credit card for a cosmetic mark or scratch from any kind of bump. Never again would I give them a credit card number, or sign a form giving them permission to apply future charges. I would never again believe Barbara, Alicia or other office staff when they verbally describe the content of the contract. Give yourself plenty of time and read everything. Get copies of your forms immediately. They lied to me when they said they'd provide them later.
In my dispute, they were rude, arrogant, unresponsive and uncompromising. They won't communicate or negotiate, almost 4 months later. Their owner, John Dion, is the worst of them. His only answer is insults and cheap-shot character assassination. I offered a settlement check. He didn't even have the decency to respond.
Do yourselves a favor, and find another provider.
Unique Suggestions: DON'T give them a credit card number, or sign a form giving them permission to apply future charges. DON'T believe Barbara, Alicia or other office staff when they verbally describe the content of the contract. Give yourself plenty of time and read everything. Get copies of your forms immediately. They lie when they said they'd provide them later.
Fun Alternatives: There are other snowmobiling and ATV rental companies at Tahoe.
There's another one up at Zephyr Cove. It comes recommended by the Stardust Resort. It can't help but be better.
Tahoe (tired, old) Queen
The Tahoe Queen looks like a fun way to cross from South Lake Tahoe to North. Actually it's pretty boring. The view of the shores and mountains are impressive for the first 30 minutes but then there is nothing to do. Occasionally they have a rudimentary "casino" operating downstairs. There is a meagre selection of poor food. Even the "paddle" is a fake one.
DO NOT TAKE UP their offer of a combined sail-skipass ticket unless you have checked that Squaw Valley has more than one lift open. Our party of 8 took this to find only one lift was open at Squaw and neither SV nor TQ would entertain any sort of refund on the ski pass. TQ were quite rude about it, in fact.
Unique Suggestions: Take your own food and a deck of cards.
Fun Alternatives: You can hire self-propelled boats of various sorts from the harbour. There are also other paddle-boats, speedboats that probably offer a better alternative to the Tahoe Queen.Related to:
