    The Plague!?!

by blueskyjohn Updated May 5, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

While hiking the Rubicon trail we stopped at Vikingsholm for a break and a snack that we brought along with us. While at the picnic tables eating a few chipmunks had absolutely no fear in jumping up on the picnic table seat right next to us looking for food. They are very cute and I can see people wanting to feed them as I am sure happens all the time based on the chipmunks lack of fear of humans. I always refrain from feeding mostly due to my training as a Leave No Trace educator.

On our way out we used the public restroom at the location I noticed a sign stating that the animals in the area could have Plague! This sign really should be posted by the picnic tables. A little late if you feed the animals.

    Graffitti problem?!

by Shihar Written Apr 9, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Many of the trails we were on had bad graffitti engraved in the trees or written on rocks.

It really is a shame that kids do not have enough respect, that these marking will continue on for years and years.

    Dry Mountain Air

    by cwest03 Written Jul 11, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

You will quickly notice that the mountain air in Tahoe is not only clean and clear but it's also very dry. Be sure to bring along some good lotion to keep your hands and other parts moist. Eye drops are another good item to have on hand especially if you have sensitive eyes and if you wear contacts, you might want to keep your glasses handy. You nose will likely dry out but unfortunately I'm not sure what you can do to keep that comfortable.

    Be Aware of the Sun

    by cwest03 Written Jul 11, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

In winter or summer you must be aware of your exposure to the sun. There is no better way to ruin a vacation than with a bad sunburn and Tahoe seems to be a pretty easy place to get one. The altitude seems to enhance the sun's effects and speed up the burning process. Be sure to use a good amount of sun block if you're going to spend any time outdoors.
