Gold Line Stop- Mission (South Pasadena, CA, USA) by marinarena, 3 more photos To experience the charm of South Pasadena, stop at the Mission stop from the Gold Line. I am always delighted by the old look of the area here. Scenes resemble that of a small village more than the modern, western suburban city. Check website for info on schedules and more. San Gabriel Mountains by Varinia Located in Pasadena, California, Caltech is a coeducational university dedicated to instruction and research in engineering and science. With an outstanding faculty -- including several Nobel Laureates -- and such off-campus facilities as the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Palomar Observatory, and the W. M. Keck Observatory, Caltech is one of the world's major research centers." It was at Caltech that psychobiologist Roger Sperry discovered that the left and right hemispheres of the brain are specialized for different capacities: the left brain for verbal thinking and language; and the right brain for spatial-visual thought. His work has had an incalculable impact in fields ranging from education to behavioral psychology to neurophysiology. Sperry was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1981. by Varinia Many places to go but if you are in the Old Town Pasadena area The Norton Simon Museum plus The west front of Pasadena City Hall is rather impressive, and there is plenty of space to admire it because of the immense width of Garfield Street. Incidentally, to your right (north) is Pasadena Public Library, where you can use one of four PC's connected to the Net to read your email. The Library is open Monday-Thursday 9-9, Friday & Saturday 9-6, and Sunday 1-5. Everything is in a walking distance! Leave a Comment Address: Old Town Pasadena

South Pasadena Historical Museum, California by marinarena South Pasadena Historical Museum Who says entertainment California is expensive? Here's another free admission venue to visit. For the traveller who enjoys the simple charm and one who would like to experience the history of a place, come here east of downtown LA to South Pasadena where its Historical Museum will not disappoint. The musuem building is the old Meridian Iron Works building. Isn't it pretty? Inside, one will find Native American artifacts, old photographs of the town and its people and a big ol' ostrich(a carousel ride version of one) near the back of the first floor. Say hello to the museum staff here, if a member happens to not say it first, which would be out of the ordinary. A friendly middle-aged blond lady (oh, I should have gotten her name!) was a very gracious host who cheerfully gave me a truncated but informative history of how South Pasadena came to be. This was a pleasantly enjoyable find during my first real venture in South Pasadena. Come on down here also! Operation hours: Thursday, 3-8 PM Saturday, 1-4 PM Free parking available by museum. The Norton Simon Museum of Art at Pasadena holds one of the world's finest and most prestigious collections of Art. My favorite part of the collection is the 103 pieces of Edgar Degas paints and sculptures, some Picaso's bronze sculptures, Gris, Mondrian, the sculpture garden, plus ... Worth visiting, check the website which is an excellent way to see the collection online. Leave a Comment Address: 411 W. South Pasadena Street Festival, California by marinarena Look for this event in the springtime in the more quiet, and unassuming South Pasadena, a little city of charm. The street festival is quaint, not so crowded and convenient (right of the Metro Gold Line at Mission St). (Don't confuse this with Mission Rd. which is also in South Pas and in nearby Alhambra). Leave the car at home or at a Metro parking lot and experience what South Pas has to offer! There are many booths featuring unique, handmade jewelry, clothing, and various crafts. When I went (23 April), I enjoyed especially the creatively designed fashion tops, jewely made of amber and other precious stone and cloth items of the Indian(Asian) style. Especially for families, this is an excellent seasonal stop for the kiddies. There is a little zone just for the little ones with a mini ride (roller coaster-like) and other juvenile entertainment. Leave a Comment Directions: South Pasadena, festival is likely in the future to be held near Mission St/Fremont
