Tehachapi Things to Do

  • TUSCANY IN TEHACHAPI-SOUZA FAMILY...

This could be the start of something big. Wine has been around since man first squeezed grapes and set it aside to ferment. Since that time wine has grown up to be one of man's most recognized drinks, "the nectar of the gods" as one once put it. the party, dinner, gathering, social event drink of choice. There are many regions of the world that...

  • NO DINOSAURS HERE, JUST HIGH DESERT WINE

Triassic Legacy Vineyards and you might think that Fred Flintstone will be waiting for you behind the tasting bar. Maybe, even worry that the extinct raptor has come back to life. Well, you are partially right. Triassic is for the time frame of 248 to 206 Million Years Ago. The Legacy is for the handing down from the Triassic period to the present...

  • TAHACHIAPI TRAIN DEPOT

"All Aboard!" From out of the west, we return to yesteryear, the mighty call was made to get on the steam spitting locomotive with passenger cars or rail cars and a caboose. This was a train making a stop at the original Tehachapi Depot built in 1876. It burned down and was replaced by another built in 1904. Owned by the Southern Pacific Railroad...

  • PRIDE IN THE MURALS

Murals tell the colorful history of Tehachapi. Downtown Tehachapi is a quaint area of shops, stores, boutiques, restaurants and markets. What you are looking for is the murals that have been painted on the side walls of buildings and even a retaining wall. I was unable to photograph them all but I do have a few. It is refreshing to see beautiful...

  • A Little Bit Of History

Tehachapi Museum offers a glimpse to our simple past. It is a small building, but filled with lots of information and displays that has been so gracefully donated by our pioneer families so many in the future may enjoy them. They renovated the whole inside of the museum last year, so it is even better!

  • New and Improved~

We gave this place a second chance since it is under new ownership. What an improvement they have done with the staff, food and decor. We really enjoyed the food and you get "a lot" The decor was fun with Godfather movie posters and photo's. They staff were awesome too. I would recomment folks to stop by and check it out!.

  • Reopened!

This wonderful restaurant was once called The Cattleman's Bar & Grille and it was closed for over 4 years. It has reopened as Cafe 58. It use to serve breakfast, but it no longer does. I surmise that the breakfast crowd was slim. We tried it out once on the way to work in the morning and although the service and food was good the folks in the...

Sadly this place has closed down and recently has been torn down. A little sad about it, because it was local history. Now it is just a memory. The food is good and priced reasonable. The decor is simple, but comfortable. Has a wonderful view of the tracks across the street. So, you can sit back eat and watch history continue. It is right next door...

Tehachapi Transportation

  • Planes, Trains, & Automobiles...LOL!

Well I could not help myself with the title of the tip, please forgive me:-). Living up in the mountains, you have to really rely on your cars. Yet, Tehachapi is not so rural after all. Amtrak has a motor coach service that stops in Tehachapi coming to and from going to different rail stations. Bakersfield Amtrak Station is the closest to Tehachapi...

  • Locals and Members Prune Vineyards

Once a year after winter has come and is about to leave, say late February or early March and the vineyards that are springing up in Tehachapi need pruning to set the vines for new growth and plump grapes. The small town community spirit is alive in Tehachapi. Many locals and fellow vineyard owners help each other out with volunteer pruning. Then...

Nothing more local than locals going out into the Souza Family Vineyard and harvest the grapes. It was rather chilly on this day of days of grape harvesting on September 28th. • Watch Out for Elk and Deer

We have a wonderful hurd of Elk and deer that are growing by leaps and bounds, but "THEY ARE PROTECTED" So don't come here looking to hunt them or you will be the hunted. They roam at dusk and just before sunrise, so caution is advise for them if you venture more towards Bear Valley or Stallion Springs. They are huge and very "Wild"! So be my guess...
