    La Brea Tar Pits

by kahnjetta Updated Nov 25, 2014

The La Brea Tar Pits are a group of tar pits that surround Hancock Park. In Los Angeles, a natural asphalt has come up from the ground in this area for tens of thousands of years. It a fun activity, and who knew this would be in the heart of Los Angeles. The admission is $15.00 for Adults, Students $12.00, and Children are $8.00, for the day. There is so much to learn from the Ice Ages, Fossils Labs, and the Atrium. The beautiful, tree-filled courtyard at the center of the museum draws natural light into the building and provides a peaceful spot for visitors to relax and enjoy. There is a colorful Koi Fish Pond , which is always enjoyable. Ginkgo trees hang over the benches, a great place for reading all about the museum. Another treat in the Spring, hummingbirds begin to set up their nests in the bamboo trees planted the lovely outside area. Open daily 9:30 am - 5 pm, except for:
New Year's Day , Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas . This is one place you do not want to miss, a fun outing for all.

    University of California, Los Angeles

by kahnjetta Updated Nov 25, 2014

If your child is thinking about a college to choose from, you must visit The University of California in Los Angeles, located in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles . Founded in 1919, it is the second-oldest campus in California. The westwood campus is a safe environment, with so many activities for your future student to be involved in and a great way to meet long life friends. UCLA is the leading arts and cultural center in the western U.S., hosting more than 1,000 visual and performing arts events each year. Also if your thinking about furthering your career, UCLA Extension, offers a variety of courses, programs and conferences to professionals and others around the world. I did have the opportunity to enroll in a few of their on line classes, great teachers and it was the perfect tool while working full time.

    Fantasy and business

by solopes Updated Jun 18, 2014

California is a mythical place in Europe, connected with sun, beach, surf and... entertainment.

I'd been in Disneyworld, in Florida, so, in Los Angeles I choose Universal.

Different figures, different themes, but the same solution: imagination, fun, animation and... business.

    knott's berry farm

by davesut Written Mar 12, 2014

We really enjoyed knott's berry farm. As theme parks go this was great. There are plenty of rides to enjoy. A bit of info - you have to pay for parking which for UK visitors will seem a bit strange but in USA this appears to be the norm for such places. The place is, of course, busy in the summer but given that it stays open until 10pm you can get on a good few rides very quickly after the crowds start to disperse at around 6pm. I conquered one fear of the big drop and I do mean fear.

    Disneyland...the best Disney Park

by ArenJo Written Jan 19, 2014

I liked this park a lot better than the one in Orlando because it is smaller and easier to walk which is a great thing if you have children. It also is cheaper and you can easily walk out to eat at cheaper restaurants in the middle of the day. Also, the hotels nearby are at a great price.

    My favorite

I really appreciated my visit to California, but if I had to choose my favorite place it would be... Santa Barbara.

Maybe because we spent there the sunniest day in California, maybe because it is really nice, this would be MY beach if I decided to swim in California

    Death Valley and Mojave Desert

by Madasabull Written Dec 17, 2013

As we drove from San Francisco, with nice warmish weather, then through Yosemite National Park and snow so deep the pass was closed while it was cleared, and then to arrive in the hottest place in America, has to be experienced to be believed fully.

It was hard to imagine such nothingness, I mean, the place looked dead, and you couldn't help but think about all those poor people who, when searching for a better life, came across this place instead.

But it still became an area of mining, Borax mining, gold and silver prospectors holes (actually I better call them digs), could be seen for miles in all directions. We will find what we need in the most inhospitable of places if we have to or if there is money to be made.

A great drive around here, and there are visitors places toilets, as there are not many trees to hide behind.

    LA Beaches

by Madasabull Written Dec 17, 2013

We have seen them all on Bay Watch and loads of other movies and shows, but there is nothing like seeing these beaches for real, and they really are a treat.

Miles of flat sandy beaches, with the main beaches cleaned and graded to remove all the rubbish and debris.

There are net ball nets and other activities to be had on the main beaches too, and some of the houses right on the beach edge are fantastic and must cost a fortune.

Great beaches and plenty of bars and diners close to them.

    Yosemite National Park

by Madasabull Written Dec 17, 2013

Always wanted to visit here, and now was my chance

I couldn't believe I was actually here. A place I had always wanted to go, but somehow struggled to get here.

But now I have been, I have loads of great memories to keep and share. I am so glad I went. The views and wildness of it takes your breath away.

The people in the small towns in and around here are warm and friendly, and we stayed in a great hotel by chance, and had the best BBQ we had up to then, as we came out of Yosemite.

We found some great things to do and see by chance here, it I can't help but think how many more little treasures there are hidden around Yosemite National Park.

San Francisco Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge

by Madasabull Written Dec 17, 2013

No trip to San Francisco is complete with checking out the Golden Gate Bridge, for a tourist that is, and we loved it so much, we crossed over it twice. Well we had to get back of course.

It was amazing. You could see the skyline of San Francisco so clearly, and Alcatraz too. We took some video and some pics at the Vista Point off Redwood Highway, which seemed like the place to get the best pics, and while over that side of the bridge, drove on a bit more to see the Giant Redwood Forest.

The bridge was being re-painted while we were there, and Im sure that not matter when we would have been there the bridge would be being painted, it's probably and all year through job, it is massive.

    Giant Redwoods and Colonel Armstrong

by Madasabull Written Dec 13, 2013

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We heard that these trees where up North from us and given that this would mean going over the San Francisco Bridge, and taking pics of Alcatraz while near the bridge, it was perfect.

When we arrived there we couldn't really believe just how big these things are. I have seen Karri Trees in South Western Australia, and these where huge, but not the same really.

I loved it here with these trees in California more, and I suppose having my wife with me to enjoy it made a huge difference. And after all, these Redwoods are the tallest trees in the world.

Funny picture of my wife, we laughed a lot at this. She looks like a creature of the woods.

    Pacific Coast Highway

by Madasabull Written Dec 13, 2013

Our first leg of our 3 week road trip was leaving LA and heading to San Francisco. It will mean driving along the Pacific Coast Highway, and it was fantastic.

This coastal highway see's you driving along high above the sea on the side of some very big rocky hills.

You will pass diner and shops, and even small towns and places to stay if you wish.

    San Francisco

The most European of the American cities that I visited,, San Francisco is really a must see.

The connection to the sea, the conflicts between the straight streets and the hilly place, the several and different quarters, the bay, Alcatraz, everything has something in common with our American references and memories built by movies. Not to be missed!

A Taste of Napa County Wine

by JulieJueletha Written Dec 7, 2013

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There are hundreds of wineries in Napa County, the heart of wine country in California. This area is ideally suited for growing grapes as it is warm but protected by fog and not prone to freezes. Many of the best wineries brought wine grape seedlings from the greatest wineries in Europe to thrive in California and produce amazing wines. Years ago wine tastings at the wineries were complimentary and the only thing you paid for was a bottle of the best wine you tasted, if you wished to buy one. Now the wine tastings cost but are still an experience to taste the best wines and decide which ones are to your liking before buying. Listed below are Napa County wineries that have tastings or special offers (check with the individual winery to make sure of their offer, current prices, etc).
