Organic pizza?????? Well, my sweetie likes organic stuff so we checked it out here in town---good choice, the beer is cold and good (try the Emancipator! 10% alcohol dark roast flavor) or the Willits Wheat beer, also a good one.
We had 2 personal pizza pies, 1 lrg salad, and 2 beers for $47 B4 tip....not cheap but really good and all organic!

This is a great bakery and place to get sandwiches, breakfast and lunch, in the heart of downtown Ukiah next to the courthouse. As a side note, this is apparently owned by relatives of owners of other Schat's bakeries in Southern California and Bishop, CA, the latter of which I have been too, as well.

It's a bakery...it's a coffeehouse...it's a deli...it's an ice cream shop. This cafe wears many hats. It is a great place for lunch with a lot of character and atmosphere. We each had a cup of soup/w bread and split a sandwich, which was quite large. Reasonable prices, great fresh food and drinks.
Favorite Dish: Expert Witness vegetarian sandwich on 9 grain bread.

Windmills Cafe is definitely my new favorite restaurant. The atmosphere is very welcoming and its a very family-friendly restaurant. They have crayons and games for the kids as well as a children's menu that's almost as good as the adult's menu. The service was wonderful, the waitress made sure that we always had everything we needed.
There were so many items on the menu that it was hard to decide what to order; I wanted to try everything! They have a very good selection of wraps and sandwiches, as well as Italian and Mexican food. The dinner menu has several delicious dishes, and the portion sizes are more than enough.
Favorite Dish: It was really hard to pick a favorite dish, but I'd have to say that I like the Chicken Caesar Wrap the best. It's romaine lettuce tossed with sliced grilled chicken breast and creamy Caesar dressing, wrapped in an herb flour tortilla. It's rather large, but it also comes with a side dish. You can choose between french fries, a side salad, pasta salad, potato salad, or soup.

The broiler is a great mix of people who are dressed up and dressed casual. Great steaks and wonderful grilled chicken dishes top the menu here. Sunday dinners come with soup, and dinners all week come with bread and salads.
Also, the waitress doesn't usually mention it, but you have a choice of rice instead of a potato. I personally like the rice.
Favorite Dish: It's tough to pick a favorite. My preference is the steaks, but my wife really prefers the grilled chicken. We both love the "house" salad dressing which is a creamy dressing with a touch of horseradish. Yes, horseradish. It's MUCH better than it sounds and you HAVE to try it. :)
Also, if you can handle your steaks rare, ask for the "Mary's Cut". It's not on the menu, but it's the tenderest, best steak you can get.

Wonderful atmosphere! This restaurant was recently opened by two chefs from San Francisco and has fast become a local favorite. The menu isn't extensive, but the food is spectacular and reasonably priced.
Favorite Dish: Coq A Vin - perfectly seasoned & melts in your mouth!

El Azteca was opened over 30 years ago by Alex's mother. Now, Alex and her sister continue to run this exceptional restaurant. El Azteca is nothing fancy - it's a lot of very good food in clean, almost always busy, and usually noisy with chatter surroundings. Almost like eating over at a friend's house with all of their relatives.
Favorite Dish: I forget what # it is, but I like a chicken enchilada & beef taco with rice (hold the beans and hold the red sauce).

Schat's is a busy bakery/cafe. It is located within walking distance to the courthouse, downtown shops, and businesses. Which means: if you show up at noon on a weekday, the place will be packed and you will wait at least 20 minutes for your lunch. Better to get there at 11:30am or after 1pm and miss the rush.
Schat's is well known for its excellent bread, made to order cakes and pastries, and as a great place to hang out and have a cup of coffee or a sandwich. The atmosphere is casual and you will be surrounded by busy coffee shop noises & people running into each other and catching up on what's been happening.
Schat's also has a bakery/deli inside Friedman Bros. (a Home Depot type store) located at 1255 Airport Park Blvd., Ukiah (see my Hampton Inn tip).
Favorite Dish: I absolutely LOVE their jalapeno cheese bread. It's about $5 a loaf and will feed 5-10 people. To get some you must arrive at the bakery before 8:30am, or call ahead - it dissappears quick!
For breakfast: breakfast burritos are HUGE and very good. Haven't been able to eat a whole one yet.
For lunch or an early dinner: the No Contest - a turkey sandwich with bacon & avacado on Schat's specialty sheepherders bread.
The best cake: chocolate with raspberry filling.

This is a good brewpub right in downtown Ukiah, on State St across from the courthouse. It is in a characterful old building and serves organic beer and food, with some vegetarian selections.
